Hey guys
Here's a difficult question that I have for u. "what's the main difference between dutch and belgium design?"
It's an assignment for my study, so please help me out. By the way, not only webdesign...all design things.

that's exactly what I think, but i really need to answer that question somehow. I went to a lecture about this topic and the belgium designers were talking about some rules they have, and that in holland if u are a designer, you are taken more serious and stuff....but that info is not enough to make a whole project about it.
i know it's a difficult question...I'm sorry guys :P

Eh?theres nothing difficult about that question, its just the question i dont really like cause i do believe theres no real difference talking about NL or B-design in general.

that's like saying what's the difference between design in New York City and design in New Jersey? Nuthin' hee hee. I suppose people can be influenced in a different way, but those places are quite close to one another. :)

In my opinion the main difference is that Dutch design is a worldwide known style of design, it was very known in the 50's, dutch deisgn is not only graphics, but all objects as furniture, clothing etc. Belgium design, who knows what that is...

There are differences. Dutch design is introvert, almost depressive and conceptual. Design from Belgium has more colour and is more expressive. IMO of course :D

Dutch sites populate certified archive at NT while belgium sites not...

Like any good point - find examples.
Find out the top 5 designers from each, then compare their works. Wouldn't hurt to look into architecture design - that is often a big difference across cultures.

dutch design is more planned and structured....while belgian design comes more out of improvisition...its comparing apples with oranges.
the problem is belgian (especially graphic)design has a huge minority complex..as where the dutch have their own identity an a very theoretical aspect(concept,concept)
we rely more on copying the popular styles at the moment...or the popular styles in the past..wich is mostly demanded by art directors and marketing guys who realy dont know shit about the business(but thats a global problem as we all know)

there is more humor in Dutch Design.
the Belgians are more serious.

its the surroundings and exposure to everyday things that make designers different from one another, i think.
although i cant comment as to why belgian design is different to dutch. (i havent seen enough of each, to compare the two).

from my experiences with clients, i have the idea that the dutch crowd is much more educated graphic wise ... dutch clients ( in nightlife ) are a lot more in to cuttin edge design. clubs as supperclub, now&wow, hotel arena, some id&t concepts, etc are really nice... clients in belgium need designs which are comprehensive, not too "weird", it's a petty! they don't dare to take the risk of educating... as in fill collins club you need to combine it with humor otherwise i didn't work...
the electro scene on the other hand gives hope...
