If you go and complain - leave my name out of it please -- I don't want to ruin my chances of teaching there... (well... somebody has to do it, right!!??)
haha ;)and yeah -- the books are pretty scattered around..

complain is big word.i'm just fed up you know?if you would hear the assignments they gave the 3d years..man its just scary..and the good teachers(lode and koen)they scare them away..its just sad.and now binneweg has done it...he is visiting all the interns at work this week.so every company makes time for him..one of my classmates and an apointment with binneweg at ten o clock in the morning..10 oclock..no-one..they wait 11;12 oclock..finally at 1 o 'clock he calls that hes gonna be late..he calls around 3 o clovk back..says he standing in front of the house but says its a restourant..the fucker wrote down the wrong adress..then he said that he didnt want to come anymore..so now he will be going there 3 november..when the internship finishes and theoretical classes begin..and you musknow that this classmate has been her internship since july..and she has been calling and e-mailing him the entire period without reply...that just shows how much he is involved with the department..its realy sad

i do not agree on whats here been said on Belgium. you might get a wrong impression.
Shallowland, not quite at all.
ive been visiting a lot of designoffices lately and i must say there is some picobello work out there but it isnt been pushed forward like american salestrategies. work is made in belgium in a more subtle way. its more in the details.
it seems like you pompousloving anglophilians dont get to understand thataside this:
nothing but love to you guys

True BXCAR, there is a lot of good work out there in Belgium, but the argument here is that sadly it's not pushed/accepted as an art form, serious creative craft like it is in Holland. Yes, there are a lot of design studios who do really really really good work, but still in the bigger picture they don't carry a lot of weight. Its all about general perception and acceptance. Case in point: Dutch tv (the VPRO for example) has a lot of decent coverage on design, graphic design etc,... We have Coda.

On the other hand I must be honest and say that since i moved to the UK I have been out of touch slightly with the going -ons in Belgium pertaining to graphic design, and have to rely on past experience and what I see/hear when I visit friends.

word! tomm. i followed the last two years of emma at academie... it takes a lot of discipline for self-education, in my opinion it ain't worth sh*t... ok it gives you a lot of time & space to find yourself, but knowing along some techniques in various programs can help you in expressing yourself.
And also true about recognition, we as graphic designers get zero respect from the settled artists in antwerp they protect their incrowd designers. I am not going to call names here but there is one g. designer who does a lot of print work for well respected fashion designers and cultural events and steals stuff like you can't imagine, sells logo's copied from underground designbooks, scans catalogues from colette (paris), etc... it seems that the amount of cocaine opens doors... maybe it's a generation thing...
