What are you varnishing?
- joyride0
I have a few questions on your card.
What are the lines for?
Is it a business card or an advertisement?I Would drop the -brochure... stuff and open up some white space. Maybe put your contact info right under your name. Because I think your name gets lost right now.

lose the underscores_
- Blueman0
ok.. i'm going to varnish the front and the blue and silver on the back..
The lines are there so that I can write something on the back if i need to like my address or stuff that myself and the potential client talked about.. as for the underscores i'm going to loose them.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't be very interested in having you work for me.
- Blueman0
why? what make you say that? iconolove?
- gravityroom0
I'm with joyride2 -
Too busy - loose the lines. If you need to write on them, keep one side blank - its not an ad. Its your contact info.
The logo is interesting, but it could be a little more readable.
Less is more dude. Colors and varnish sound like they'll look nice. Been done a lot, but your print job should look good.

Go up to the book store and look at one of those books on stationary of famous designers and see how simple the best cards always are.

I didn't mean it to come out that harsh, but ya less is more. Its got to much going on on the back and its not really telling the person what you do or anything.
- Iconolove0
Sorrry, it does say what you are doing but the quality of it and the lines just are to much.
- Blueman0
Yeah i know what you mean.. Less is more.. That's why i only put my logo on the front. As for the colours .. i want the card to stand out in anyones folder...
The back is giving me some problems. If i take out the lines it looks a little empty.. The lines look darker on screen. I only want them to barely show up. like 10- 15% screen.
...ps. what has been done alot? the silver and varnish on cards?
- nosaj0
I like the front of the card, but the back needs a bit of work.
I would:
1.Lose the lines on the back.
2.Simplify the list of what you do
and simplify your title
3.Lose the underscores
4.If you want to use the D as a watermark try blowing it up and using just a part of it, (have it run off the page). If you do use a watermark I don't think I would use the blue bar behind your name.Good luck

looks like a tag from a piece of clothing
- Blueman0
ok iconolove.. how would you change the quality of the card to show what i do?
and isn't it good to list all of the different things that i can do.. so that when the client takes the card and they have a look at it later on .. they don't have to wonder as to what i can or can't do..
and as for this isn't an ad.. well i have to disagree.. because this can and most likely be my only little ad so i do need it to be flashy.

-That's why i only put my logo on the front.
That's the side people will glance at and turn over. Its the side people will look at the least.
-If i take out the lines it looks a little empty..
Work on the typography some.
-The lines look darker on screen
Don't dig the lines man... sorry. Light or not.
- what has been done alot? the silver and varnish on cards?
Yes. Every designer I know has a solid color and a logo on one side of the card. The blue is very coorporate which may be good. If you want it to stand out in a folder - go with something like red. Might be cool to call your company Blue and have the main color be something else... less obvous anyway.
I don't know what kinds of clients you are going for though.
nosaj has a good suggestion with the watermark.
- Iconolove0
well, honestly its not up to us. you asked for our opinion. but less is more.
- Blueman0
yeah well i'm spending a lot of $$ so i don't want to mess it up..
Most of my clients are ppl who are starting up their business or require a new look. Most of them are not familiar with any design and would totaly get confused with a red bg colour and my name Blueman Design..
I will rework the card and post it up tomorrow.. Thank you for your comments .. greatly appreciated. Please post more .. i will check them later on.. and see you all tomorrow
- Iconolove0
Why are you spending alot of money. I payed 45.00 for mine and I got 250 of them.
- abizzyman0
you got dashes slashes underscores lines and dots that are just wrecking the typography... which needs a TON of work too.
Type is KEY. It's exceptionally compressed in the kerning which works in some cases - but not lowercase colateral information like this.
Change the font all together. Go with something more geometric and visually less-complicated.
yup.. less is more.
I'm thinking a simple helvetica, avenir - akzidensk grotesque... something along those lines.
using a humanist typestle doesn't work in such a small area.
the color.. the varnish... the type of printing etc won't help a design unless the design is good to begin with.
your design isn't that great... cuz of the type and the lines - dashes etc. etc. and overly kerned humanist style font. (which probably would work better if you took the point size down a bit and went all U/C)
