ok, i know this is a touchy subject, as media temple is probably one of the most popular hosting companies around, if not THE MOST POPULAR. But I feel that I need to express what is happining with me, so that other people may make a fair, non-biased opinion when choosing their host. I subscribed to Media Temple about 4 months ago, to host an e-card site that I was starting up as a project for school. After completing the assignment, I realized that the hosting was way too expensive for my budget, quality does have its prices I guess. Anyways, I mailed in their service cancellation request form, and that was it. Since I paid in 3 month increments, and still had a month of paid hosting left, I figured that was it and did nothing more. Approximately 2 weeks ago though, I realized that Media Temple had charged my card the hosting charges for the next 3 months, no big deal I thought... I'll just call and have it removed. So I called. After being on hold for quite some time, a friendly man answered the phone, and asked how I could help. I explained my situation, and was told that he would look for my cancellation, and have my account cancelled that day, and money credited back that afternoon, and if he needed anything he would call. So delighted with the results, I said thanks and hung up. Two days passed, still nothing, no word, no refund. So I call back, same thing, except different person, this time... No problem sir, I have cancelled your account, and you should be recieving a credit within 48 business hours. So once again, happy, thanks, goodbye. 3 business days later... NOTHING... once again I call, and explain, they say another 48 hours, but now my account has actually been cancelled and a request has been made to accounting, however this was a week ago, and am still not recieving my credit. I will finish with this, if you are looking for high power, reliable hosting, Media Temple is amazing, they by far superceed the competition... BUT... all this apparently comes with a price. One big factor for me is customer service, and I do not appreciate being lied to, or brushed off. After reading my story, I do not want you to think I was unhappy with my hosting service, as it was amazing, but i am quite disappointed with the troubles i am experiencing now.

If anyone from MT reads this, please solve this issue as soon as possible, so i may return to loving your great host, and not be reluctant to use you again in the future.

    later,
    jonathan

you know what would really take some kahunas? for media temple to take THAT testimonial and put it on thier site...

thanks for the heads up... it's always bothered me how companies treat their clients after they've made the all-important initial sale.

One of the biggest rules of business: Don't fuck with peoples money.

  • unknown0

man just call up your credit card company and told them you've called up MT a bunch of times to cancel, and they are still charging you. that'll take care of it really quick, cause now it's an unauthorized charge since you've called in three times or so to cancel it.

  • jg_20

that works. youll get the money back.

  • openmind0

It's all hype. Media temple have a fast connection but their customer service sucks.

I had an account with them last year and got rid of it after the poor customer and technical support I recieved.

They haven't upgraded their versions of phpMyAdmin and MySQL for ages. They also don't support the xslt extension for php nor do they allow you to enable other extensions in php from your control panel.

Hopefully they will fix the above mentioned probs soon.

ha. same thing happened to me, only i was JUST STARTING UP my company, paying for dozens of different services, etc....had to cut costs somewhere. called MT to cancel a day or two after they put the quarterly fee on my card, they said no problem. i kept calling, getting refund notices via email...but no refund! took a few months, and i REALLY needed that money, it actually caused checks to bounce right & left. since my bank (wells fargo) hates my guts due to several thousands in overdraft charges i've incurred over the years, they just thought my story was BS and told me to F off (actually they told me to get a letter from MT, explaining that it was their fault, and send the letter in to Wells Fargo corporate office on MT letterhead, which I actually asked MT for and never received).

oh well. water under the bridge, i've got plenty of cash now. but yeah, that was kinda lame, i thought.

Sorry but why would you choose a hosting company based on their popularity [little logo]??

  • mitsu0

because other designers 'love mt'. it's kind of been a trend like the 45 degree arrows and stretched pixels...

cows following the other cows all looking for grass to chew on..

[But I feel that I need to express what is happining with me,]

Same thing happened to me once ... but with AOL.
