Mac vs. PC?
- LouBot0
I use a canon EOS 30 - film not digital, and a really old Mamiya from the 70's, it's great.

The soft bulletin is one of my favorite albums
- LouBot0
Yeah mine too, I was a bit let down with Yoshimi because Soft Bulletin was so good.
Yoshimi's still a pretty great album though.

Career? Do you have a professor.. i think you need to talk to him.
This debate died in the late 90s when the personal expression of cranbrook / tdr / carson faced the reality of shorter deadlines and greater productivity. Helvetica and neue-modernism came "instyle" becuase its fast and allows designers to illustrate projects themselves.
There are so many sub-genres in our industry your question is a bit silly. Artist's are commercial artisits too. You have to have a statement, style, and clients.
If you mean you want to be a Graphic Designer that is contracted because you are artistic you should follow the path of Graphic Havoc, MK12, Ian Anderson.. etc.
I have had several snowboard designs end up in art galleries. am i an artist or designer? michael Beruit wrote a great article several years ago about stylist vs conceptualist. i look at this as production vs directing. it doesnt matter if you make money or dont, if you have a client or not. you can be good or bad.
you are an artist... get over it

debating this point is fruitless.
just do.
- bmehalo0
good point transfatty. sorry.
- werker0
I am considering a career in Creative/Artistic Accounting in the telcom industry. Seems to be profitable
- pr20
hey, why is it that he gets all the credit?
- Duane0
both art and design are intended to communicate ideas. transfatty is right though...actions are louder than words.
- ribit0
you guys seem to focus too much on your own particular niche (communication design) when you start trying to answer the bigger question of artdesign...
the architecture example is good... design is more than just about communication, it's problem solving of all sorts... it's giving form to erm...stuff... and it can have a lot of art in it... or not... (am I confused yet?)
- ribit0
why did it strip out the arrows I put between art and design?
- kpl0
didn't you hear? we're not supposed to design with arrows anymore.
