you guys seem to focus too much on your own particular niche (communication design) when you start trying to answer the bigger question of artdesign...
the architecture example is good... design is more than just about communication, it's problem solving of all sorts... it's giving form to erm...stuff... and it can have a lot of art in it... or not... (am I confused yet?)
