both computers are powerful computers... do you like sitting in front of Windows XP installing security updates all day or do you like working on a crash proof system like OS X.... decide- it has nothing to do with the case, the chip, or even the software becuase most of the software metioned is available on both platforms- it has to do with the OS-
You can build your own PC like a hot rod junkie building a mean machine in the 70's. Yeah it might end up cheaper- Wonder Bread is cheaper at the Value Plus store too.. but then you will have to wonder- yeah why isnt this working- and why is this having a problem- maybe I need a driver- or an update... think about this- HOTRODS... think about anyone you have ever met who owns a classic hotrod car.... what do you notice? They are always fixing it- every couple miles- it needs this and that- but hell its fast and cheap.....
to me that is a bother- as to alot of mac users- I want it to work and go... some say we are diehards who only care about form over function- but I think its completely
    the other way around-
we buy it and have it for years and it goes- and hell it looks good too- I'm happy PC heads can play more versions of Tetris than we can- I use my computer for work........
    __________
yeah its a freakin debate- I hate this topic- to end point I am forced to use a PC everyday at work JUST CAUSE and to me its damn ass backwards- take away my case but leave the OS that;s why I use a mac. Most PC heads used a mac about 3 times.....

    radiosilent... I completely agree.

this whole debate is silly... and it bugs the hell out of me when people say "but macs look cooler"...

Give me a cardboard box full of wires & chips that runs mac os (reasonably fast) and I'll be more productive than I am on a PC. And I'll pay a little more for it. Because it's how I make my living!

If you're more comfortable and more productive on a PC... more power to ya...

the debate is because steve jobs targeted creatives from day one.

yes you can design just fine on a pc. there is a dollar to me made.

macs are expensive, but its competing against a microsoft movement that finally caught on to our niche.

we are lil bit bitter. it happens

BonSeff sorry but when it come to G5 ~vs~ Dell workstations with dual processers the MAC is cheaper hands down. I'm not a PC or Mac hotrod and can't build from the ground up like most of you or I would to save money. I would just like a fast computer to render video stuff like AE I hate to sit around. I could care less about the outside look of a computer I have both PCs and MACs and they both look ugly.

I am not sure who is talking about updating windows all the time. I've done so once in 3 years, and that was yesterday for the Blaster Patch.
W2K and XP Professional never crash, and I run multiple 3D apps, Premiere, etc., at once.

    Just so you know.

But I don't think the debate is off. The G5 puts the Mac into a category with other top machines for the first time, that makes a comparison viable for the first time (in a general sense).
Read a lot before buying, the standard benchmarks are still in favor of the Dell being faster, but we'll have to wait until they actually ship (Apple's comparison is biased, of course).

As for 3D Apps, many of us don't need anything better than the top gaming cards, so the Mac will work fine.

And, yeah, I do care about a $3k piece of machinerys apprearance. Just like I care about my images on my wall.

Buy what you think you'll be most productive with.
