yes in that you are right.
you can run both softwares on different platforms, you can also run a marathon on one of these http://imageserv.wolverineworldw…I mean, those or a pair of light running shoes will do the same job too right?
now, do you see MY point?
peace

I see your point!

god.. you guys are so off topic now this is stupid.. I need help with picking a good platform and software for editing video, AE stuff as well, plus DVD creation on a some what pro level. I have tons of video that I need space to store on my computer as well. can I link systems to pull a video file off one system onto other to burn DVDs? just a thought?
- Meeklo0
and you didnt got an answer yet?
just compare, on what is on your budget!!!!
If you have the money get a g5, if not get a the fastest pc you can get
period
DID THAT HELP!??
oh god.

meeklo needs an attitude adjustment.

The latest P4s have serial ata drives, making a RAID 0 configuration. That basically allows you to have a superb system, that's fast and reliable, for little cash.
Compare prices. Obviously, the Mac crowd is there because the love their machines regardless of cost or performance (I am not saying they don't perform, just that it's not the largest issue).
The PC crowd is going on a PERFORMANCE vs. COST ratio, PERIOD. I buy what I can afford that offers the best perfromance. Speed is what I care about.
I don't care if it has an Intel chip or AMD, just what's better for the cost and more reliable. So far, in my years of research and buying machines, nothing compares to the price/performance/reliability/su... of a Dell.
But now that AMD has the 64 bit Opterons out, I will look at brands like BOXX that use that chip.
I care about performance over looks.
What do you care about?

macs and pc's..... suck
- georgietexan0
sorry but the G5 is cheaper then the fastest Dell workstation 650 computer I checked.Sorry I can't put togather my own computer before and I wouldn't want to deal with the whole bios and flash stuff which as you my not be able to tell I know nothing about.
I guess I get a better deal is to get the G5 in the long run cause I can "render farm" it with my older G4 and that would help with AE speed.

get a Coleco
- ********0
my work just built a dual 2.8 gig pc. After effects hauls on it. You can render farm Cinema 4D sweetly, AE can render farm on PC with limitations(must export to image sequence, not movie file) but it hauls on this machine...
I have a dell at home. They sell a ton so they're not that much more than on e a buddy builds for you and they guarantee their machines. All of you jobless idealists are so lame. just get a machine you like that you can afford.
- pr20
yeah, some things cost $3000 because there will always be a sucker who will think that sheling out $3000 will get him a better machine than $1000 would.
sure if i could afford it would get one of those $1500 monitors with hood and that thing that sticks to the glass to correct the colors... Actually if i could afford it i would hire someone to execute my ideas. Instead of rambling on about techinical bullshit.
(oh and the monitor is 19" not 20" -- my fault). My bro put together a killer system at the begining of the summer for (including that monitor) exactly $1000 that's why i know.

...oh, and premiere IS inferior to FCP.
FCP is GOD of editing apps.

I do editing/DVD/motion graphics professionally and I use a G4 933mhz/1gb ram/260gb internal space/360gb external. i use FCP4, DVDStudio 1.5 (v2 should be here any day!), and AE
OSX.2. NEVER had any problems. I have transferred to BetaSP and HD for broadcast, I have transferred to 35mm film for projection, DVD for distribution...all on my mac with absolutely no problems. AE works great. FCP4 is amazing. What else could I askk for?!
You want my advice? Stay with the Mac and get a G5. I have been doing this for a some time now and have gone through everything...PCs, Premiere, Avid, etc...this setup works great. Trust me, you won't be sorry.

Creon
You sold me thanks for the tips. all that you just said is what I want to do myself.Thanks.
plus FCP does rock!!!

One thing a Mac user can always smile about is the snazzy case! At least you'll have something nice to look at for the coming years.
My Dell's aren't horribly ugly, but man, why can't someone wake up!
The day 3D Studio moves to Apple is the day I move too.

I've got a Dell Precision 350 and it rocks when it comes to 3d work and photoshop.
However I have to admit Macs have the upper hand when it comes to editing video. Its probably the only reason I could ever see for owning a MAC but seing that's the majority of your work go for a MAC.

mbr,
the case for the new G5 is horrible, totally different from everything they have as a supporting accessories. Aluminum? wtf? PC had aluminum cases before Apple introduced their 'revolutionary' G5 case. 3d studio never ported to Mac, because PCs have and will always have better 3d accelerators, faster CPU and better OpenGL implementation. And btw I personally like having choices to design my own computer and to pick my own funky case.
As for someone who posted above, why do we have PC vs Mac debates, that's because Mac users from the start started debating that they have a better computer and that all Mac users are superior then PC? It's always because of Mac psychos not PC users.

nice generalizing there boz.
very intelligent comments...
