Good discussion. It is heartening to see that people are thinking about the issues. It is sad that many world leaders are better at playing politics that our current administration.
I still want to make the point that we are already at war and have been for years. It is simply becoming more clear as it comes closer to the US. That does not mean that we need to take it to the level of a ground war with actual troops, but we can not easily say that war is not an answer while we are in a war. We can not stop the war as they are attacking us.
Also, as proud as I am to be an American (and embarrased at the same time) I clearly understand that we have been too bullish and agressive in the past. Many of the problems that we are dealing with today are due to mistakes we have made in the past. Will going to a ground war and attacking Iraq solve the problems? Certainly not! Does he need to be removed from power? In my opinion yes. Should we do it? I am not sure. I do not have all the facts. If he has attacked the US or supported terrorist attacks on the US or our allies then I would say that we have a reason to do so. Should we do it to protect our interest in Oil, no way. We should be spending money on developing alternative sources of energy.
P.S. I write my congressmen about once a month. I do not trust them either but I will not be passive and withhold my opinion from them. I get a nice form letter on the subject that I am writing about from one guy and a crappy letter from the other that does not address my topic. My congressman will not have read my letter but it will be logged and noted by his staff and be tallied with all the other comments to help make policy decisions.

The Bush administration LIES! (about everything...it's really hard to find any truth in ANYthing they say)
NO WAR FOR OIL.
Take that 100Billion and find another way to oust Saddam. (oh wait...that idea won't put the oil in the Bush administrations hands)

All politicians lie. It's the way of things. Read My Lips, No i did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky, No we did not trade weapons to free the hostages in Iran, Iran Contra, etc.
They are a bunch of egocentric power mad people.
Whis is why I'm so tired. Tired of the lies, the media, all the complaints (mine too).

Don't people (or governments) ever fucking learn? EVERYTHING that is happening is a consequence of acts from the past. Most of them being because the U.S. was sticking its nose where it should not have. It is no secret that the U.S. is always the one that trains and supports those that become its worst enemies later. Who trained Bin Laden to fight the Russians? The U.S. Who supported Hussein? The U.S. Who used drug money to fight the commies in Central America? The U.S.
The U.S. is just trying to "solve" problems that it started in the first place. Who the fuck appointed the U.S. to be world cop? It's that idiotic "manifest destiny" mentality... Completely ass backwards and imperialistic. A consequence of having this world view:
Cheers...

it's a sad time to be an american y'all— the world is judging us based on our inept leader, and I've never felt less represented by my government
- blastofv0
I hope the world can separate the US people from our moronic government— and I for damn sure wish the terrorists could
- ********0
you are absolutely correct, makes no difference though, are you going to stop the US Military?
- kloudman0
My Final comment on this topic. I so agree with the comment by blastofv and chilaquil. It is embarrasing and we have caused most of our own problems.
I just hope that people on this board understand that most (hopefully) Americans do not agree with what our government is doing and many of us do not even know what is going on overseas.
Please do not judge us by our leaders!
Peace to you all - what a lousy Monday this has been!
