The photos were from last year. And yes I am concerned about conflicts all over the world. How can you not be if you watch NWI or the BBC News.
Like I said earlier, it is not an easy issue and everyone is entitled to opinions and that it why i like this board so much because we can openly discuss all topics.
I was disgusted by the images of people dancing in the streets on 9/11. These people are brainwashed and do not know what true freedome is like.
Living in a country that is as free as ours is great but it also means we have responsibility to protect our freedoms from internal and external sources. It is not easy when you are in a country where everything that the goverment does is watched by everyone in the media and around the world. It's great because it helps keep people in line (not that it always works very well), but there are very few countries that let themselves be examined as closely as us.
Perhaps I am just getting old, but I am at the point where I am fed up with a handfull of things: 1) People arguing one side of any topic without being open or empathic or understanding to any other side. (You dont have to agree with an oposing view to understand why someone has that view), 2) People complaining without trying to do something to change things (When was the last time you wrote to your congressmen? Do you vote?), 3) People complaining just to complain, 4) The media making criminals into victims, 5) 'Design Elements", 6) Long Rambling Posts (um, perhaps I should stop here).

"yes it is about oil for the French, they don't want to blow their sweet heart deal with the Iraqis."
So the French are protecting their national interests. Oh my God! They can't do that!
If America can protecct it's national interests why can't others?
I can't imagine America saying, "sure" should the Chinese wish to
disarm Tawian.

Exactly BlueJam, that's the thing none of you Euros can accept that the United States HAS the right to protect our interests and our citizens!
When we want to protect ourselves it's about oil but when the French disagree it's about peace and love, wake the hell up and admit that you are out for yourselves!
- o0o0
this thing about the oil... it's not that we want more oil for our suv's.... you're right, we get more oil from other places.. it's a strategic thing. After WWII:
It was then that policymakers realized that the Middle East was "a stupendous source of strategic power, and one of the greatest material prizes in world history."
check this bit of history:

I would love to answer you Michael.
When was the last time you wrote to your congressmen?
I never did, dont trust them.Do you vote?
Yes I do, always did since I was 21, I want to see how many people do that here.People complaining just to complain.
I complain because I feel sad for what happened, what is happenning and whats is going to happen, Im not taking side here michael, I understand we think different, that is why I said THERE IS ALWAYS 2 SIDES ON A STORY.The media making criminals into victims.
Never thought that can be the otherway around?Miklo

Protecting oil contracts is one thing. Protecting your people is another.
But believing that you have the right to 'regime' change, changing an entire country's character, it's culture because you think it's right...and god is on your side.
...thats something else.

more general question— can anyone forsee a time when we've completely removed military force from our list of options in an international conflict? Is war a permanant part of who we are, or can we ever move beyond it?
Sure as hell won't happen in my lifetime...

Do you think Hitler and Stalin for example should have been left in power?
- unknown0
well..
I know some guy that is not far away to be responsabile of death and terror.. YES TERROR..
There is one thing, that its true.
we (pepole in this post) are not going to agree..
but I dont think im going to solve this by punching you in the face.. War is never an answer..
- o0o0
oh, and "why didn't we take their oil in 1991?" ... that doesn't prove we don't want the oil... check what Norman Schwarzkopf's says:

...12 historians give balanced views on whether today's conflict can be measured up against previous conflicts.
As one of them so rightly points out, "History never repeats itself, ever. That's its murderous charm."

the pro-war arguments are always so stupid and never make sense
- ********0
pro / anti arugments are very well not founded...
most of us just go with the flow.
has anyone really done research since 1990?
i mean not reading the news or searching the net.. but a real strategic analysis?
- Bluejam0
"the pro-war arguments are always so stupid and never make sense"
And so are those that say nothing. Except name call.
Tell us why you think they don't make sense and are 'stupid'?
Please.

there are some basic anti-war arguments that are well founded and don't need to be researched like:
killing other humans unecesarily is wrong and evil - i don't need to research that - I just know it somehow

"we must remove Sadam - remember Hitler" - stop making that comparison - it's retarded in so many ways - a few examples being that the power of Germany and Iraq are not comparable - nobody had a problem with Hitler until he started invading countries - Sadam hasn't done that since the last war (which made sense)- pro-war people are so adment about how Sadam is the next Hitler and will kill us all but didn't give a rats ass when clinton was in power - Korea is firing up nukes and saying that they very well might attack the US if the war with Iraq begins but you're scared of Sadam (aka Hitler)
"if we wanted oil we would have taken it before" - okay 'cause the rest of the world would have just said okay go for it - you were really just supposed to liberate Kuwait but okay - and because you didn't take it then that PROVES the US has zero interest in oil
"this will prevent future terrorism" - ya right - this war is going to breed anti-US terrorists for decades to come - get the ducct tape ready *sigh*
stupid - stupid -stupid
