Reminds me of the Carrhartt ads circulating magazines such as Sleazenation, The Face...etc.
I would try an look them up. They are very (eye) catching and help promote lifestyle (over brand).
Good work. Try to develop what you've got a little more...
...definitely in the right direction.

over marketed to? it doesn't say what they sell or do!
- reluct0
That's why they wear diesel and prada's and drink red bull with smirnoff all day right? No of course. We media savvy people hate advertising with a point. We prefer art :) LOL. Sorry about that. It's the red bull speaking.
If you would print this "ad" in a magazine you would think it's advertorial content. That's not what an ad is supposed to do.

meeeow rasko! But you haven't noticed a certain 80s styleee to life lately?

The eights feel is rad. But it also has a modern feel to it. I personally like the mystery of not being told a specific messege. I would click to the site.

thats the point testpilot. Its not an ad for washing powder. Would sit perfectly with triiad, carhartt, skate/hip hop etc.

Thanks for the comments guys...keep 'em coming. I went to school for business, and I gotta say, after sitting through all that bullshit of selling your soul to sell your product I couldn't possibly turn around and force some "artificial" message down as vespa said "savvy" people. Our audience is much too smart to put up with that. We want to add to the visual environment in a positive way. Basically telling people, "hey, check us out if you are intrigued, if not thats ok too" We aren't looking to become the next Hilfiger, or CK, or any of those other balloons. This is our passion, we do it for the love of it. Sorry to ramble here...

didnt realise marketing people posted here. next youll be talking about brand strategy and the evolution of logo withi the consumer hub and whatever other bollocks you can come up with to justify doing fa every day.

meeeoooooww haha vespa!
yeah course - but a) that is way played out now, leave that for the high street kiddies and the 333 old st essex night trippers and b) just being from the eighties wouldn't make it cool, I didn't like the illustration, not strong enough, no zeitgeist.

I think it's pretty much a case of, if you don't get the ad, it's not directed at you.
- Duane0
style over substance i guess

Good illustration

carhart and boxfresh and the other brands you mention ALREADY have a brand so they can reaffirm their (supposed) coolness with more image driven ads rather than 'buy this' ads. Though if you ask me those brands are not leading edge and not aimed at opinion formers rather they are a step down the heirarchy, aimed at early adopters and muppets.
I know what you are wanting to achieve with the ad but I think you are walking before you can crawl.

Oh my... Are you saying that a concept is not neccesary in advertising???
You could watch and learn from the masters like BBDO and Ogilvy, but instead you complain about washing powder commercials. That's silly!
A great quote from a great advertiser: You can say whatever you want about washing powder commercials, but they FUCKIN SELL!

rasko
*applause*

Hurray for Rasko :)

Its alright in my opinion. I think it should have some type of message to it like a nice 80's art deco font that says something like "Makes You Look As Good As Tubbs". Then add some flamingos here and there and you have yourself a genuine Miami Vice replica! ;P
Seriously though, you need to concentrate on who your audience is and what they are going to be attracted to. You want them to be aware of tha ad and you want them to take action (visit your site). Right now it really doesn't envoke me to take action though. Also think about the audience you are focusing on. Is it graphic deisngers with a thirst for the abstract, or teenage rebels using leftover lunch money to make a statement, or the fashionista walking down fifth ave. to go to the Barney's warehouse sale!?
- flapper0
looks really cool!
=)where is it going to show up?
magazine?
- gradiate0
reluct.
"the masters like ogilivy and bbdo"
dont give me a lecture on advertising mate. Since when did bbdo or anyone ever work on small streetwear accounts? Think the dude asked for opinions on his ad not your nonsense. soap powder sells as people need to wash their clothes is the answer you give to mr ad boy. We could go round in circles about good advertising but only once you put your head on and stick to the issue in hand.

Metro.pop's next issue, along with a sticker insert
Other magazines to follow.
