Very good.
and so true...sadly.

weeellll, it's not really the SUV that's causing the problem, it's the fuel source, or better yet, they type of fuel used.
- unknown0
no, not the SUV's indeed...they have no mind...
But those mindless citizens who'd love to sit alone in a waaaaaaaaayyy to big car which guzzles waaaaaaayyy to much petrol.
And who fucking cares?
Not Bush.
*fuck it..getting angry again...*
- mitsu0
bush is getting his war on, and there isn't much anyone can do about it.
we'll need to rely on science to solve this problem for a need for alternate fuel. then we can all be soccer moms.

You can't blame people for driving cars, it's not their (our) fault that oil comes from those countries, are we going to stop driving cars just because oil comes from a country in war?
People will never stop using their cars, its that simple. I think its kinda ridiculous that they've spent money on doing these commercials, "I helped hijacking a plane", so what, should people who drive cars feel guilty now, is that what this is about? Of course its one of the worst tragedies out there, but they would've done it anyway, even if I hadn't taken my car to work.
Would we get rid of all electronic stuff if China had terrorists? Not likely. Would we throw away all our meatballs if Sweden had it? Not likely.
All countries provide something.

more specifically, the SUV mentality is known by all. It is an evasive McReality that not only borders our own but infringes upon the very idea of common courtesy and SPACE. Space is very important to thinkers. Space is not so important to the mindless mass, who grease the slides in the playground of their 6 year old minds with foreign oil. This is basic, folks.

You're correct. I think the significance lies more in it that they "mock" the "drugs = terrorism" ads, by "reducto ad absurdum".
and it's completely unintentional...

I think the ads have a good intention but don't quite communicate the right message. People who drive huge, bad mileage SUVs (and don't actually need them) are being socially irresponsible. If more of us drove smaller cars, we'd be going easier on the environment and driving down oil prices. Cheaper oil = less money to oil-centric regimes. I think that's the point, but the ads are too sensationalist and don't communicate that point.

these ads are great. The Bush administration has cut spending on alternative fuel research.

Hey Jox,
You CAN blame people for driving Hummers that get 10 miles to the gallon. You CAN blame people for NOT buying fuel efficient cars, like a Toyota Prius that gets 52 miles per gallon.
The point of the ad campaign is to get people to think about their actions and how it affects others. The car manufacturers are making butt-loads off of these status symbols (and that is all SUVs are). Car manufacturers are being very irresponsible, especially since the technology is out there. Hydrogen cars, electric cars, and alternative fuels have been in the works for years, but the oil companies have such control over how our government operates. (ie The Bush World Order) Japan is far, far ahead in this area.
Of course, people will never stop using their cars, but they sure as hell can be smarter about what type of vehicle they are using. I guarantee you that a majority of the S.U.V. owners out there are single, live in the city, and don't ever "haul" things (except for their friggin empty MacDonalds food containers).
Don't even get me started on how stupid your Swedish meatball comment was.
Now go eat your Surf n Turf and shit it right back out.

you guys dont think the big 3 auto manufacturers havent invested heavily in exxon, mobile and the like? dont hate on my suv, i like my suv.
- hiphoprelic0
good point, jox
suv's are not the problem.
men and women with "small penis syndorome" that think a big car means big nutz are mucking things up as far as gas consumption goes.
- CL0
yo, don't hate on my space.
- Peat0
Cheers to These Folks...Make a Donation, and stop Driving and building these SUV's, Please!
- hiphoprelic0
d_ummachine - you obviously live in some concrete jungle where the only purpose of automobiles is to transport one to and from starbucks to office complex.
"all suvs a status symbol."
suvs have a purpose, like hauling my dogs and gear to open spaces where there are trees and grass to enjoy.
My grand cherokee gets better gas mileage than any lincoln, mustang, ltd, caprice, impala...
suvs are not the source of all evil
- mitsu0
yeah, i drive a mitsubishi montero and it gets better gas mileage than some of the sports cars i used to drive.
then again, maybe i shouldn't tell you all this... you seem to have so much fun worrying about other countries problems.
- CL0
there's still time to get rid of those evil death machines.
- Bluejam0
Suv's make good fall out shelters...
...personally i find the adverts damaging to the anti-war arguement. They are in the realm of fantasy as reality (that's advertising!). In the same way that 'we' mocked the 'drugs=terrorism' ads in being based on half truths and lack of facts, the same you can do with these adverts.
It woulda been more intelligent and thought provoking to base the ads on facts that we know...ie effects on the environment, the reality that natural resources will one day run out and the idea that there are other modes of power (electric)...and that advertising is based on selling you something that you don't really need (not one SUV ad is shot in the city...funny that).

maybe we should throw away our pencils because they are made from innocent trees.
