You just have to keep in mind that people tend to be rather harsh here, when it comes to critiques.

Critiques would be useless if they were a circle jerk:

We're designers - we have to be tough, it's our job. I don't know of many sites I'd rate higher than a 9. I'd even only rate my own site about a 7 ;)

"You just have to keep in mind that people tend to be rather harsh here, when it comes to critiques. "
as long as the critiques provide at least some positive feedback on how to make it better, harsh critiques can be the best ones. some of these posts, though, are just straight site-bashing. those people get no respect. especially with the sites they're displaying. i think it takes courage to put your site on this forum for critique.

I'd say 5 is fair. It is clear you have the technical skills but sometimes when designing you have to tame your urge to use them.
It is all about the context of the site and "Fitness for Purpose"
Good use of typeography, layout and information structure is just as impressive as all the bells and whistles Flash can muster.
You obviously don't need a book on Flash so why not get a book on Usability or Typeography ?

i think there's too much goin on, and the only thing that communcates 'emergency vehicles' is the picture itself. there isn't much consistency. i think you should chanel your talent in another direction. this site would be better suited with a white background with more content and less 'stuff'. Good effort though.

why does it scroll on my 1024x768? there is no reason it should scroll as you have enough room to provide this much content... also if it does have to scroll, the most important info (the phone number) is at the bottom! fix that and I think it will be GREAT! its a very nicely designed site, congrats!

Thanks Josh - Im gonna fix it so it pops up in a window without the browser nav...
so it will fit in a 1024 screen.

This thread is a prime example of the subjective nature of web design.

I agree with mrniceguy, just giving it a 2 is bs. If you don't like it explain exactly why.
Colors - 4/10 I love them, but I thought I would be entering a portfolio site, not EMS products
Flash - 8/10 very smooth
Usability - 7/10 seems fineI do agree that there may be too much going on, maybe you don't need all of the scaling? Your call, though, 'cause its pretty smooth.
I like the different image that loads when you revisit. That's pretty slick. What did you use to do it?
Overall - 7.5/10 change the colors of the bg, and it go up
Good job.

effort does not equal good design unfortunately...
rating: 3.5
color good, type bad, effects useless

IF YOU MAKE THAT A POPUP I WILL TAKE BACK THE 6.5 AND MAKE A 4 OUT OF IT!

+ does not fit my browser.
(IE 6, PC) <-- most users+ Frame rate needs fixing. plays choppy. the transitions need to be at least 1/3 the wait.
+ Remove that cheesy loop. corp sites do not need 'mood music.' your users want content not mellow urban jazz basslines. I can just picture some LED purchaser fire'n up his bong to the relaxing sounds of this site.
wasted bandwidth.+ Remove cheesy metal bitmap. bandwidth wasted.
+ bevel buttons are evil! in 2003 users should be able to locate link without the air of beveled boxes.
+ I'm sure your client think they need a billboard to display their companys phone number. But I'm pretty sure a user will be able to find a 'normal' sized tel. number just as easy.
+ sound effects like 'woosh' make me crazy. short and sweet if you must.
+ Remove cartoony gimicks. I know it must have been a riot with the marketing wizzes, but dancing locks, and metal gates over menu items, barking dog sounds, and flashing light loaders do not speak fortune 500 to me.

+ Colors. green and blue? I know somtimes you dont have a choice. :[
+ simplify. quick and clean always a winning combo.
I liked what you did with the news/product/info boxes. well done. a bit choppy tho.
just tighten up some of those issues and you would have a winner site that you can pimp smack across your client.
I'm sound harsh because I care :]

CTRL_Z is such a fanatic..
praise him!
good job tho!

i give a 6.5
and why:
1) i don't like to wait (loading, loading, always loading)
2) i'm not a flash supporter. when i see a site made with flash, i say "bye bye" (but there is some exception)
3) the design is pretty good.
4) it's better to have a fast connection
5) the navigation is easy
the biggest prob (for me) is that we always have to eait wait wait
- Ctrl_Z0
on this flip side to that his users, will most likely be behind a broadband connection.
and not a fan of flash? eeek!
