Thanks Luke.

luke it's our job to school the client...we are the ones that spend time reading crap about userabilty, nav, trends, dos & don't...not them. you let the client take full control..and your on a one way street to lens flare avenue.

Sorry, dont like it! I'm really impatient when it comes to websites and I hate having to watch things swoosh in before any content appears! Its all very 90's, sorry!!
- luke0
i hear you, but at the end the client has to love it. sure everybody should at least try to educate the client and push him towards the good things.
i only thought WE are thinking like designers but not everybody out there is a designer and i´m sure the target group of that site as well holds a pretty low percentage of designers so maybe we should sometimes switch to NON-DESIGNER-MODE when criting some work. it just gives you another view of it.
non-designers won´t care about OVERUSED 2-ADVANCED FX!
that´s all i wanted to say :)

I wasn't really commenting on the design, it was more the loading. I've a fast broadband connection, and I feel sorry for the people who have slow connections. It can get very tedious. I didnt even wait for it to fully load, I got bored watching things swoosh in. Is there any way it can be speeded up a bit!?!???
- Scotty5120
Things can be speeded up a bit, but alas, the client wants all the bells and whistles and likes the way that everything transitions.
So when I recommended it, they said, leave it alone.

Why oh why do people insist on the misuse of flash?
The site is like a B-movie paved with special fx.The fact you have to WAIT so long for all the "bling bling" to load, doesn't help the purpose of a site promoting EMERGENCY vehicles. (?)
Yes you know flash, but I suggest to fine tune your concept a little bit.

So... Misuse of Flash? Don't take that from anyone... Those are the ones pissed b/c their Flash work isn't superior.
I like it... perhaps you should have the content (ie text) load in first... that way the user can indulge themselves in the nice things Frazer has to say about their product... at least they can get into it before all the cool stuff completely loads...
Also, on the splash page... you mispelled recommended.
You should also make a switch that will allow you to turn on the sirens... that would sick... and it will allow people to annoy co-workers while on the web...
Turn up the volume and start blaring your horns!!!! WOOO! WOO!
I give ya an 8!

I give you a 10 for the audio-options thingy! Well done! Very nice!

interesting thread.
it was tough for me to figure out what the site was about, and i agree with everyone who said it seemed way over the top, but if the clients liked it, my critique seems irrelevant.
the green background should go. that could make a world of difference.
i havent sorted out exactly how id rate this site. high points for technical merit, lower points for communication/usability.
If you could keep all the bells and whistles from obscuring the product and/or information, you'd have a really good site.

I love the History section too!
(timeline)Your skills are top notch!
But it lacks a top notch concept...
I'll make it a 7.5 now.....
I still think content is first, then the bells&whistles.....

ya, i just checked out the audio, thing. as an individual element, that is a really nice piece of work.
i havent figured out why you'd put a sound loop on an emergency vehicle site though? i play mp3's non stop, except possibly if im browsing designer sites or digital art sites. Having generic sound loops on corporate pages annoys me to no end.

another smart thing I found out:
the audioplayer uses cookies to play your last chosen (fave) track when you return.
clever.
- ok_static0
the reason why i gave 1 out of 10 on design is because i see it as just another flash site with no heart/concept in it, just a technically show-off, i can't see the intention of why doing an EMS site in this style.
- ok_static0
one suggestion:
you should concentrate on digging the flash tech but next time try hire a designer or art director.

harsh but true ok_static.

Thanx Gumey, thats the highest rating yet........the lowest was a 1

What makes one a designer?
Ive been calling myself a "Designer" for a while......
I did "Design" the site.
Im sure there are people who are better than I, but the best designer in the world cant design all the sites in the world....theres plenty to go around...
plus, isnt it a matter of opinion?
Ive done sites that I think concept wise are better than this one, but each one is different.....or at least I try hard.
- Scotty5120
Got to say:
This has been a great post.
Usually when I post something everyone starts arguing and it becomes something completely different.
But this time I got some real good input.
Thanks to all.

Well Scotty, maybe you could enlighten us and explain what is the concept that is the foundation of your design.
Designing is about communication. it;s about using tools (like flash) to communicate. What messsage do you want to deliver with your design?
