I'm moving out there in March! Going to be working in Hollywood. I'm looking for a quiet non-city place and don't mind driving a bit.. Some suggestions I've heard from a few people were Pasadena and Glendale. Any other suggestions I should check out when I go out there to look around?

Definitely Pasadena. MUCH nicer...but also pretty exensive. I have friends from college who live there and pay an arm and a leg for a1 bdrm apartment.
BUT.. Old Town Pasadena is MUCH safer and much nicer than anything in Hollywood IMHO.

i think it's north hollywood. it's just past 3rd ave. heading north towards off of la brea.
i don't necessarily want to live in hollywood unless it's possible to find a nice, relatively safe place. a pad in santa monica near the beach in a nice apt. would be best, though i would consider glendale, burbank, and pasadena as well.
while i was there glendale was only a 15 min. drive from the office i'll be working at which is totally cool. orange county on the other hand is a bit too long of a drive to commute to and from work every day, and the reason i know that is because i hopped on 10 and accidentally went in the wrong the direction!

forget pasadena.. its nice.. but a place for familes.. its like beaver cleaver land gets boring fast... santa monica is okay to visit but to live is to expenisve and the westside gets boring fast as well . hollywood area is alright , there are places near franklin that are decent. i live near downtown l.a. cause its cheap, there are alot of loft studios in downtown, but they are getting pricey cause all the artsy fartsy people from venice and s.m. are invading us down here, if i had to recommend a place i would say the silverlake, los feliz area.. it s really nice area, with cool bars and laid back scene not too hollywood, but then again all of l.a. is hollywood..(thats an exaggeration for all you smart asses) culver city is okay too its in the middle of everywhere. and orange county give me a break.. i dont even wantt o begin how crap that place is.
- PIXELRANGER0
hhaah. Orange County is Crap?
AHAHAH
Its a simple equation. LA is for single people who want to stand in line, party and say they "know someone" and live life by the edge of their pants flirting with death & violence. Orange County is for people who are family oriented, own BIG houses and looking to settle down. (that's an exaggeration for all of you smart asses)
If you are claustrophobic dont live in LA. Plain and simple. TRAFFIC TRAFFIC TRAFFIC. PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE.
South Orange County is the most incredible place to live. Like I said. If I had to choose between working in LA and staying in OC and having to be a construction worker. I would pick construction in a heartbeat. No offense its just not my area.
Hey Gabe, you never re-sent that e-mail. Oh yah..when you get out here you need to come down to OC so you can hang with the crew. :)

it s only an opinion pixel ranger.. interesting description of l.a. too.. you sound hardcore. i work in architecture so i guess my view of l.a. a bit different than yours.. i would rather design interesting progressive and innovative buildings, rather than cookie cutter housing that pollutes the beautiful landscape of o.c. .
- PIXELRANGER0
Ovalle. Dude..i was just having fun like you were. Why take it serious?
Anyway, when your house is on the top of a hill you dont look at the cookie cutter houses. :)
Its just a nice place to live. I know some cool places in LA too but I'm more of a rural person who likes living back here in the hills. I'm in South Orange County at the edge of Cleveland National Forest so I dont have many neighbors. :)

its all good..

byt way i actually dont like l.a. either.. im orignally from the bayarea so i relate more to the suburbian lifestyle anyway

and there was peace in the world once again.

yah I went to school at Davis. SF has some incredible architecture and an increcible skyline.
LA sucks in that regard compared to what you are used to. :)

A 2Advanced guy who loves O.C., plastic and all, I never would have guessed. They must get all their inspiration from the blocks and blocks of strip malls filled with corporate chain stores. It could explain why their site all look the same, like OC cities.
Sorry to sound harsh, maybe it isn't appropriate. But being a creative type that was born and raised in OC and hated every second of it - it's hard for me to listen to other supposed creatives sing the praises of such a creatively bankrupt place.

go live around the miracle mile area, you'll be in the center of LA.

kozyndan rocks.. i bought two of your panoramas.. i hang them proudly on my wall! i have the tokyo street scene print but it doesnt have the school girls or the robots... its okay... do you guys ever have openhouse of your studio? when are you guys going have anotehr exhibit here in l.a.?
- DanK0
Thanks Oliver,
Glad you like them - you got the early tokyo piece that's sold out? people still ask us for that one, personally i like the remixed one better. If you e-mail me your address we can send you the remix version if you'd like.We don't have openhouses - our current place is not good for them, maybe after we get a loft or something. As for shows, jeez i don't know. We have one in SF in April, and probably will be doing one in Tokyo after that, but our next solo show in LA probably won't be until Summer.
- ovalle0
wow .. thanks for the offer.. i would totally appreciate that. i cant wait to see the next metro.pop with your guys' spreads. i have the previous issue(last summer) great stuff...
- PIXELRANGER0
What part of OC you talking about?
Aint a strip mall in sight back here in Trabuco Canyon. Just the beautiful Saddleback mountain and all of the wildlife and hiking you can handle.
I will agree with you on the plastic deal, but hey..that is EVERYONE in Southern California not OC.

plastic what?

im moving to Huntington Beach in 2 weeks from the east coast! hows that area? ive never been, heard its beautiful tho. PIXELRANGER, how far r u? wheres the good spots for mountain biking and rock climbing?... and drinking! =)
- PIXELRANGER0
You will have no problem finding places to drink in Huntington Beach. Its a big party area for all ages but mainly the younger crowd.
Not much rock climbing that I know of since its not my thing but I'm sure there are some Indoor places all over. I know in the 24 Hour Fitness center by John Wayne Airport they have a rock wall that is like 200 feet tall.
As far as biking just head towards South Orange County and the Foothills and such. Look up Santiago Cyn. Rd. Anything back there.
I live down in the Mission Viejo area but its called Trabuco Canyon. I'm basically Mission Viejo but waaay back in the hills down the street from the Oakley Headquarters.
