Looking to move out into an apt. in the Hollywoods, or Silverlake, or Santa Monica, Venice, etc.
Was wondering if anyone had any passwords for those pay-sites. I tried Craigslist but you don't get the same quality as those pay-sites.
Or if anyone has a room open in those areas, let me know.

i'm looking in the same area shant, but sometime in early january. drop me a line...

I think you'll do much better just driving around. I just moved from Pico and Barrington, those apartments around there don't list in Westsiderentals. There are plenty on Barrington (south of Pico), some nice ones, some reasonable.
Westsiderentals, in my experience with them, didn't really help. All the apartments I'd look at I would show up and there would be at least 5-20 others waiting. Not to mention the managers would always make you wait ages.

I've been looking & have multiple places that might be an interesting possibility. I too am moving by January, so, shant, contact me & give Gabe my info & maybe we can all fig something out. :^)

drive around...seriously you'll have the best luck that way. westside rentals is indeed competitive!
i've had the best luck in all my la apts thru friends tho...so check up on yer friends.
coffee shops too are a good place to look, specially in the silverlake area.
either way, good luck!

get ready to pay the price though. I was paying 375$ per month for a nice 2 bedrooms apt in Montreal. Now it's 950$ for a 1 bedroom. It's fucking crazy

I'm leaving for LA area also but I have a place.
Seriously I would try to get a month to month place lined up until you get there. I wholeheartedly advice against moving to LA without driving around and looking what there is. The internet and local "apt finders" suck for getting a place in southern california.

prices in LA (from what ive seen so far) are a dream compared to LA. i was paying $2600.00 a month for a 3 bedroom house in SF. looking forward to the move!!

Evil, 975/1bd is pretty cheap man! hehe
I was paying 1400/1bd in Cambridge MA once! MOntreal is sweet tho when it comes to price, ive got alot of friends there and they live in these huge 5 bedroom apts for under 800, and its downtown or plateau!

i have a question for those of you already out in LA... what area of hollywood is non-gay, safe, nice, and has a cool nightlife?
also, how about places in santa monica on or very close to the beach? i'm looking for a 1BR for somewhere between $900 to $1200.
i'd consider a roommate but i don't a damn person out there.

W.Hollywierd is gaytown. I'd say try looking for a place in the valley. you'll get a better place for your $. nightlife and beach would only mean a short drive. have a friend or taxi drive your drunk ass back home.

if you wanna give me a call this weekend i can fill you in about where the fun places to live are. happy to hook up a fellow NC refugee.
also, i'll be in chapel hill from the 21st to the 27th visiting family if you wanna get a beer or something.
my cell phone number is on my website.

dude, you are sooo close to getting a 4:30am wake up call from some unknown dude and an electronic keyboard.
- gabe0
hahah, man, a 4:30 wake up call would suck!
the "valley" is around burbank, glendale, pasadena, etc. right?
i'll be working in hollywood so that will be one hell of a drive to make every day when caught in traffic! i'm not sure if i'd rather just pay higher rent to avoid the frustration or not, tough call i guess.
chris i'll be in charleston, sc on the 21st/22nd but when i get back we should definitely hook up for a beer or ten...

Apartments further south in Orange County are going to be MUCH NICER and probably about the same or cheaper. Only thing is you might have a commute up to LA if that is where your jobs are.
Down here in south Orange County I had a lush 2bd 2bathroom apartment for 1200 that came will washer/dryer inside as well as a fridge, garage, etc..
Just something to think about.
Sorry. but LA aint all that.
I think if it came down to me moving up to LA and remaining a designer or staying in Orange County and looking for another line of work I would stay in Orange County but that is just my 2 cents.

how can you say that?
one drive through LA and you are filled with the joys of Los Angeles living. like fucking blinking twice at a red light and having some cunt having an panic attack on her horn, while she's bitching some dude out on her cell. or you get the glamor of some dude walking by your ride that looks like he would steal the hood off if it he could sell it to stick another needle in his diftwood looking arms. and I hate parking on the god damn street. RARGH!

will you be working in hollywood or north hollywood? big, big difference. but i can probably give you some pointers either way.
we can probably go over that in person though in NC, will be nice to actually meet you. that beer or ten when you get back to NC sounds like a good idea. we'll be sure to call buzz late and wake him up and pester him.
keep an eye on your inbox.

ha ha, yeah, OC is much nicer than the city itself but it's a hell of a drive (at least i think so). costa mesa, newport beach, etc. is a really nice area... santa ana and anaheim ain't too bad either, especially compared to hollywood/n. hollywood (how does 75 murders a year in tony north hollywood alone sound??). santa monica/venice/culver city are nice too- that's where i'd live. kinda pricey and there's definitely some sketchy areas (and really nice areas too), but it's a nice compromise between the valley/OC (which are too far away for me) and hollywood (too scummy for me).
