A young American woman who narrowly missed a deadly shooting at Toronto’s Eaton Centre last month was among the victims of a deadly shooting at a Colorado movie theatre on Friday.
Jessica Ghawi was killed when a gunman in a gas mask barged into a crowded Denver-area theatre during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises,” hurled a gas canister and then opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring at least 50 others.
Ms. Ghawi, who visited Toronto last month, had written on her blog on June 5 that she was eating inside of the Eaton Centre food court when an “odd feeling” made her walk out of the shopping mall just minutes before shots rang out.
“It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how a weird feeling saved me from being in the middle of a deadly shooting,” she wrote.

Just wondering and trying to understand how the mind of a sick madman works: If you booby trapped your apartment to cause harm to anyone who went into it, and you were capable of going into a theater to do what he did, why would you warn the cops that the apartment was booby trapped? At what point does the mind go from being capable of committing murder on that scale, to saying something that will prevent more death?

The mind is complicated. How someone lost feels can change in an instant. He may have been angry and excited to do this prior to it, could have felt remorse immediately after.

some people might want to see others die might be the root of these killings too. nothing at all uniquely american about wanting to see other humans die.
Have you read the bible? that great god fucking tries to wipe us all out in genesis.
then there's this awesome book by Rene Girard that I love called Violence and the Sacred.
"Because it is criminal to kill him, the victim is sacred. The victim is sacred only because he is to be killed."
the metal disorder may be reason, that little thing that we think separates us from the animals. it by all means, has brought much greater destruction to this planet than any other concept or action.

i believe this young kid had made mistakes in his life and was unhappy as a result - as time went on and he realized his unfortunate disposition he began to get angry and blame the life experience for his situation.. as he became more depressed and mad at life - he actually believed he could get revenge by causing as much destruction as possible without any concern for the consequences of his action - simply because he felt he was already suffering.. i believe it is the case that this kid was lost and lacked a feeling of comfort and love in his own life - thus expressing a hate for his own existence - and thus trying to make himself exist - and standing up for his bad self - by fighting against the force that determines his happiness.. a sign that he was very desperate and weak - taking revenge out on the world as a result of his own personal pain

Look, just about everyone on this planet makes mistakes in life and has unhappy experiences; most people go through tough times and feel depressed, angry, alone, and many feel the urge to be generally mad at life. To say you haven't imagined acting on these emotions in the form of revenge would be lying. Thing is, most people who consider themselves level-headed and "normal" have the kind of self control and conscience to not act on them in such a horrific way.
Lack of comfort and love in life happens. There are countless songs and themes about this going back to the beginning of civilization. Many people call it the "human condition" and religions are all quick to point out that life is full of suffering. It is our responsibility to maintain society and not make killing so glorified and simple to execute. Standing up for oneself is good, but murder is not a viable response.
Guns are pointless. Period. This kid thought, naively, that his problems were bigger than everyone else's, a true sign of delusion. Poor kid. I feel bad for him, his family, and all of the victims.
