Bump, and more inputs?

I work in the legal industry, and apparently they're all the rage now for law firms and lawyers. They put them on printed bios to refer back to the attorney's bio on the website. However, the bio always has plenty of info about them in print form; the thing they gain is access to thought leadership in terms of publications that someone has written.
I think they're a fad that's not even very understood by the people paying for them to be implemented, nor by the people implementing them, as illustrated by many of the total failures some of you describe here. They won't last long.

Anyone have examples of QR codes used by wineries?

stil hype. i've never scanned one, personally. get asked quite often if it's worth it to incorporate them into print material.
until phones (if they ever will...which is highly unlikely) incorporate an integrated OS qr code reader, the point of using them is like using banner ads to sell viagra. of course you will get a click-through, but the percentage of return is so minuscule it becomes moot.

But if you wanna make it cool: http://hackaday.com/2011/08/11/h…
I've seen people scan them in Japan. NEVER in the US.

unless they are on something i buy that's interesting, like headphones, cd's etc then i don't bother with them, my iphone picks them up well, and sometimes where they take you is interesting.

Just a way for print advertisers and designers to think that they "get" digital.
Spoiler:
They don't

I have one on my site that is a Vcard. I have all the info next to it but if someone wants to save my contact, 1 scan and it's done, no need to manually type all the fields. How is that bad?
It is the use people give to stuff that is bad, not the other way around.
QR codes shouldn't replace URL's or any important info, they're just a plus that you can use to facilitate the way you deliver a message.

Scanned a QR code on a business card once, it came up with all the person info and then put that on my contact on my iPhone, which I thought was pretty cool, saved me doing it manually.

I don't like them.

Yep, client places them on vehicles. I create them, print them and place them for a dealership. I capture the metrics using a 3rd party tool, actually works quite well.

- Congrats falling for the scam.
You don't need a special company to do any of thatanimatedgif - NO SHIT, it can be rigged through an analytics, but I'm too lazy and it's cheap.panacea

using: http://qreateandtrack.com
have used: http://www.qrstuff.com
http://www.qrlicious.com/ (style them)if you're going to try and track these yourself, I've found this site to be good for generating QR codes, and vector output: http://delivr.com/qr-code-genera…
too hard to track them on your own, it's cheap enough to do it with a 3rd party tool.

What sort of results are you getting from this?
and what sort of vehicles? Is it enough visitors to cover the actual printing costs? or are we talking <10 a month?
- spot130
All the QR services direct visitors to their sites first, track it and forward to your site. This is heavily reliant on the third party infrastructure to handle the requests and if they disappear, your links go dead.
If you just want to create a QR that links to your site and not have to worry about the third party, this site will export a vector / raster QR with YOUR link: http://qrcode.littleidiot.be/
- indeed, I'm aware, but thanks. Also, it depends on what you're trying to do, some of them point directly to E-mailpanacea
