Oh and seriously, fuck this whole 'Worst kind of American'... I'm getting a little tired of this bullshit. It makes me want to get a fucking t-shirt with a wolf and an American flag on it.
- Get some sandwiches while you're out. Big ones with extra sandwich.Horp
- I know, they're all actually pretty bad eh?neue75_bold

Artists in general are recognised for their style and technique.

BuildTo deride people for having a style and not changing is about as useful as teets on a boar.

Horp forget Kool Herc... I believe Jimmy Saville was doing the continuous mix thing some 5 years previous.
You are bang on though mate, his Westside block parties and mixing breaks, were arguably the blueprint for Hip Hop, Break dance etc.
- Josh who?neue75_bold
- adigdre
- There is an ongoing arguement about whether it was KH or JS who first cross faded. I think they probably ...Horp
- both discovered it independently of each other and maybe JS was first, but Herc could not have known about Jimmy Saville.Horp
- i did it first.digdre

This video is pretty cool and brings me to a good point: every single one of you would LOVE to support your life with your main talent. Not work in an office. Not be at the mercy of an employer. Be able to be artistic, have people appreciate your work. You'd kill for it.
I'm with 74LEO - he's always been an inspiring person, always seems pretty down to earth with what you see on the web. I got into Flash in 1999/2000 when he was one of a few guys really inspiring people to do cool stuff. Him, Presstube, VolumeOne, Eric Natzke, Yugop, all the people who were in New Masters of Flash in 2000.
I just cannot rationalize hating on someone because of success that they worked hard to achieve by working hard, finding new ways of doing things, staying inspired.

All-in-all his shit is dope, his skillz are tight and he was/is a god to a lot of flash/designers and programmer. For me anyway being a student back in 1998 he was the guy I we all looked up to. It is good to see him leave the digital realm for a more craft interpretation of his flash background.
Don't hate on a guy in the same industry as you...ever. Especially hating on an innovator of the industry. This guy is the reason a lot of people are where they are today.
I remember when Josh used to post here.

- I agree, I took his classes and had lot of conversations with him about art and clients. He's a stand-up guy and follows no one creating art for those respect his style.jbranda

i remember once going to see a guest lecture by mr. davis in baltimore. it was a fairly interesting lecture. i think i followed about 40% or so of what he was talking about. at one point i looked down at my shoe and realized i had stepped in gum on the way into the lecture hall. it was still somewhat wet, so it was fresh and i really did not want to touch it. i can still smell it, juicy fruit or someshit. it's amazing the power behind scent and it's connection to memory. there are certain smells that can trigger the most obscure memory of a grandmother or a room in a old house you haven't lived in since you were 6. god, when i was 6, i remember acting out thundercats with a young girl i was friends with. i was always liono and she was obviously cheetara. everyone joked that we were boyfriend and girlfriend which apparently stemmed from a comment i made at one point, defining us as such. kid's say the damnedest things, eh? i know my son in particular has this way about him. he is very conscious of an audience and will ham it up and do and say some very funny things. he is only 4, but i see glimpses now and then of his understanding so much more than i give him credit for. it's amazing how smart children actually are. and, then they go in ruin it by punching the cat or throwing a toy when you've told them repeatedly to stop...
what was i talking about?

I wonder how many people left CR, came to QBN, started new accounts, visited JoshuaDavis.com, and essentially created the opposite intended effect of the original post on CR?

Hey speaking for myself this one time I went to NYC and went to this art thing and JD was there signing hard drives and then he said something and I was like wow I love your tattoos i cant believe you play by your own rules
Then I was on a forum and JD posted something 3 posts down from my post and I was like wow you know, he's a really down to earth person for using the same internet I use.
Then he made this websiet and did an interview about the websiet and said something and I was so excited I totally sprayed my pants. Front AND back.
i was gonna keep going with this but eh

I have been following Josh's work since 2000. Back then I was an undergrad, then went to get my grad degree in interactive arts, at the time everyone was "poo poo" ing flash, decreeing director the better piece of software. However the one thing I loved about flash was that it was a piece of software that had a following and community. It is no mistake friendster came a year later.
After grad school I was so disillusioned by all the critique that art school brings and since I was a fan I saved up my money and went to New York for a week and took his class. In the class Josh talked more about drawing, Cy Twombly and color theory then wax poetic on design hogwash.
His class inspired me to pack up my life, and relocate to New York and pursue a life as an artist ( my dream ) because I believe that a lot of people fail to notice is whether you like his work or not, or even if you have grown past it ( how many of us can really look at the Mona Lisa and not roll out eyes? it doesn't mean it's not brilliant ) is that he is a modern working artist.
Hemingway said "critics are those who come down afer a battle and kill the survivors" his work deserves critique, but going on and on about screensavers kind of misses the point in my perspective.
