b) world is overpopulated, and people are overvalued
c) yes, it's a double standard when shit gets personal. so what.- try and mass-murder with a stapler. not quite as easy. fun though.airey

Well considering the fact that you're all descended from miscreant scotch-irish convicts, I would think you'd all be ineligible to buy canons.

Say what you will about guns being bad and killing people, but I'm pretty sure someone as nuts as the guy in Alabama could have done a lot more damage with some fertilizer and diesel fuel. Being a firearms owner and concealed carrier gives me the means to defend myself from people like that, and a ban on lawful ownership will not stop illegal ownership of firearms.
- no, I did not vote for McCain.ipissexcellence
- did you vote? lol :PtOki

If strict gun laws are the answer, what about what happened in Germany?
- ornj0
As a gun owner I actually support some stricter regulations. Honestly I think Massachusetts has is pretty close to right although I don't fully agree with an assault weapons ban.

"right, it's the mentalists that are the problem...not guns. Sane people do not go on shooting sprees just because they own a gun"
i was being flippant but if you think that is the case how do you control the potential for a shooting spree?
do you CONSTANTLY psychologically monitor people to make sure they are not going to flip and shoot people or do you just get rid of the guns?
ok a strawman question but let's run with it.

I know you are just throwing that out there for sake of conversation, but that is treading into some dangerous waters. Reminds me of the movie Minority Report :)
The question is, where does the violence stem from? Sure there are a multitude of factors, but I would argue that it starts at home and in the family. Thinking the government can somehow control these acts of violence by making it harder to get a firearm seems unlikely to me. Personally, I would at least entertain the idea though.

yea, there are many socio-cultural factors to explain why one country is more violent than another but when you look at the factors that are easy to control, banning guns is high on the list.
I think it is financially more viable than a heavily militarised police force. I realise this may be difficult because of the lobbying power of the arms industry but there is a time when you have to be brave and say we need a different direction and stop this "more of the same" bullshit.

i love how you lead w/the american school shooting when this occurs at the same time. congrats germany?

i am sure this problem has a lot of grey areas. starting at home. then if its easy to get guns etc. sure ain't making things better.

stop politicizing this extremely sad tragedy.
it has no point, no major political bill has ever been passed because of qbn.
for me personally, i have an opinion. i am strongly against any form of civilian gun ownership. but there's no point in sharing.
- janne760
i am thoroughly amazed and shocked about the things some say here.
"people are undervalued" what nonsense.
every life is as valuable as your own existence.

sometimes i ask myself "wwjd?" when presented with questions like this.
now i know what janne would do.
i can rest now.
