I'm not American, but I understand the need for gun ownership, when times get bad and the people find themselves under a tyrannical or dictatorial government, guns are one of the few remaining assets that will stop those people from being completely oppressed. i.e. it is essential to balance out the power big brother has.
Those founding fathers knew what they were doing.

I would arm every child under 12 with a 9mm glock, enough said.
- I would recommend something with a manual safety for a child.ipissexcellence

there is no FREEDOM with having guns and shit.
FREEDOM is to be safe, without it.

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

"lowimpakt is naive about history and its ability to repeat itself" - – bliznutty
exactly what history are we talking about?
The history of you not saying very much other than asking people how old they are like it is some form of intelligent argument?

So you own guns for self defense? What scenario would you even be able to use your gun in? Certainly not a random shooting, because you'd already be shot. A mugging/theft? How does introducing a gun into an altercation make you safer? This would only prompt your attacker to use his gun... unless of course you shoot him, in which case you are making the argument that a person's life is less valuable than your possessions they are trying to take.
Hand guns exist to murder people. Period. Fuck you, would-be murders, fuck you.- Yes, you. Fuck you.BRNK
- you have it all wrong dude..
guns are not for self defense, they are for attack or counter attackMeeklo - I feel the 20 dollars in my wallet is more valuable than any crackhead, mugger, or someone trying to break in my house.ipissexcellence
- a crackhead or mugger is still a human being, and has right to live.winnie_the_shit

Husband shot soccer mom as she chatted on webcam...
Meleanie Hain, 31, made national headlines last year as the mother who carried a loaded, holstered handgun to her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game.- what does her carrying a handgun have to do with family violence? I bet she wishes she had that gun on her.FredMcWoozy
- maybe she did. but still she got shoot first so that gun was useless.akrokdesign

guns don't kill people. people with mustaches do
- FredMcWoozy0
Just so you know.
The cities where firearms are banned have a higher murder rate then states who have legal firearms.
So take that in your European but and techno it.

you’ll notice that the US is at the top of the “Firearms Death Rate” chart but way down in the middle of the “Intentional Homicide Rate” chart

I always thought the Second Amendment was to keep those blasted Red-Coats out of my house; other than that, I question the utility of the 'Second'.
People are concerned about government controlling the people/loss of rights, but the simple fact is: unless you are in the ruling class (lets say—top 5% of wealth) you are being controlled to some degree.

poor guns.

Guns don't kill people. God fearing, Right-Wing Christian, NRA members do.

Whether you like it or not, the Bill of Rights is the foundation of our "freedoms" in the US. Its function is to protect the citizens from our government so they can live their own lives.
If you're a US citizen, learn your rights, practice them and respect the rights of others. A lot of people in this world don't get that privilege.
