who rides 'em? should I convert my ole schwinn s. sport into one?
- acescence0
conversions can be fun, but it's tricky getting the gear ratio and chain length right for non-track dropouts, as you can't slide the rear wheel forward/backward. have you ever done a conversion before?
for fixies i've got a pista, a specialized langster, and i just ordered a custom rivendale (yay!) that i won't have for another 6 months (not so yay).
- Mimio0
lol. You mean Rivendell?
- acescence0
hah, yeah. i'm an idjut.

you guys should ride motorbikes. that would be hawt.

freewheels are the new fixed gears.
build up a track frame if you are going to ride fixed.

(Jun 14 06, 09:32)i do. but the way i ride isn't so hot. i'm much better on a bicycle.
- Mimio0
Running barefoot with the bike over your shoulder is the new fixed gear...well that or square wheels.
- acescence0
fixies are so much fun, but popping the lockring and kissing the rear window of a cab is not so fun

(Jun 14 06, 09:34)is that really your last name on your site? it sounds cool.
- e_b_c0
if your rear drop come loose for whatever reason on a track bike, you'll be okay. if the same thing happens on a fixie, you are fucked. the wheel will come completely out of the drop.
- acescence0
yeah, i'd never ride a conversion brake-less. suicide.

(Jun 14 06, 09:38)Thanks. I like my last name just fine, but i wouldn't choose it.

(Jun 14 06, 09:44)ha, same here (regarding my last name).

and if anyone starts talking to you about "bottom bracket lock rings" turn around and walk away.
- acescence0
i had never heard of a bb lockring, just googled it. ha! what's the point if it's threaded the same direction as the cog?!?!
- fooler0
i figure by the time i get new a new crank, sprocket, rear wheel/hub and chain i might as well have bought one of the shelf.

I used to paint rivendell frames in the waterford factory.
- Mimio0
Dont you stretch chains and wear out Chain rings more often when you stand on your pedals all the time to get moving?
- Mimio0
Mr.D also invented the "Hotdog in the seat-tube trick" for those annoying customers.

hahaha great idea. we used to weld/braze bottle openers on certain peoples bottom brackets.
flip your bike over and pop a bottle of beer open.
