well i bought the bike for $160 at a used bike shop, so far ive replaced the rear rim, but the front is still what it was when i bought it.
but yeah, a new rim wouldnt hurt... but unfortuantely... i dont have any money

foreverwhatever- get a spoke tension meter. check the rim to be sure there are no cracks around the holes, if there are you're better off getting a new rim, safety and such.
speaking of safety... i recently discovered these great fixed hubs, i'm having a new one laced up to a velocity deep v as i type:

no threads, no lock ring, the cog just bolts straight on. i like.

that scwhinn is an 87. I have an '86 that is red and black. Other than that its the same Columbus tubing and Shimano 600 comps.
Funny how I found the exact bike and what I wanted to do with it on ebay. I was bidding when it was in the 100-200 range thinking that is what it would cost me in parts and labor. now it's off to the shop....hopefully I'll post pictures soon.

^ "pads to MARK the rim..."
Hope you can make some sense of that up there.
- Mimio0
No, the wheel itself might be overtensioned, meaning that the nipples are drawing the spokes to tauntly, creating pressure at the rim eyelet and causes that bulging that's in turn causes your brakes pads to make the rim like that.

mimio, what should i do to correct this problem?? loosen the quick release a tad?
- foreverwhatever0
damn! that schwinn is nice!
looks like he put a lot of money into it.

Looks like a bike shop leftover. Nice tubing and lugs though.

I found this guy on ebay that took my exact baike and made it into a fixie...it sold for $450 and it's a 20 year old bike. I'm going to the bike store right now to see what I can do to make it a single speed.

Looks like your front wheel is over tensioned, it's dimpling the rim.
//that could be line in a porno movie.

have any recommendations for a decent/afforable bike trainer,

(Jun 14 06, 22:50)the only trainers i've tried are these:
they're great

Im so addicted its not even funny... I just got a fixed gear last week and have not been able to stop riding. Do it...
- NegativeSpace0
Well i didnt mean my comment in a way that I thought it was stupid to ride a fixed gear bike, i just can't imagine doing it; seems like it would taking getting used to without the quick stopping power. I would definitely consider a single speed conversion on an old mtb I have to help improve my mtb riding.
I don't mean to hi-jack the thread but I figure some people may know in here; does anyone have any recommendations for a decent/afforable bike trainer, would be nice to be able to keep my cycling routine up during the off season and days when the weather is shitty.
