chain stretch is actually not stretching, but wear of the rivets in the bushings that causes elongation. but, yeah, chainrings and chains do wear out faster. i just use cheap KMC BMX chains that are like 9 bucks, change it every 6 months or so, and usually swap the chainring every 2 years

good affordable place to start, if you're gonna go fixed/singlespeed

That redline looks an awful lot like a late 90's Bridgestoine X\0.

(Jun 14 06, 10:16)That was the first site that came up on google. How's the quality of those bikes? Better than the quality of their site I hope.

what's up with the cards in the spokes? I almost took one off a bike thinking it was a buisness card or somthin.

'Spoke' cards are usually received when you race in an alleycat. Its a memento of the race. But they have caught on with kids, and people make their own and put them in now.

I own a IRO jamie roy, love it. got it set up as a singlespeed instead of a fixed, but its got a flip flop hub if so choose. You'll find some good review of IRo bikes in the forums. Its a taiwan made frame but aren't most of em. Anyways i think its a great deal for its price.

One of my friends runs Misfit Psycles which sepcializes in Single Speeds, he sells conversion kits, and parts. Not sure if this is of any use or help.

iro bikes seem pretty solid, have a few friends with them and they are all happy.

excuss my ignorance but is the diff between fixed and single gear is that a single gear allows you to coast without pedalling?
Meaning you'd need brakes?
- mrdobolina0
why have a fixed gear bike in the city? just to be a tough guy?
- soynutz70
yes brakes would be nice, unless u wanna whisper sweet nothing to the backend of a car

All of the bike messngers use fixed gear bikes, then again none of them wash their clothes either, must be a trend.
