YES, IT IS OKAY TO HAVE AUTHORITIES HANDCUFF A CHILD IF IT IS DESTROYING SCHOOL PROPERTY. ESPECIALLY IF THE LAW STATES YOU MAY NOT LAY HANDS ON THAT CHILD TO DISCIPLINE IT

I agree with this comment, I guess you really need to have kids, and or live with them to understand how out of control they can get. If there is no parent around, and talking to them isn't working...they are trashing the place while acting violently, and irrationally, how else do you want them to learn? I think police did fine, they didn't hurt her, I am sure she was just embarrassed, but hey, the parents shouldn't be crying foul either. If youre going to let your kid grow to be that out of control...you need to accept how the rest of society is going to control her when she ges out of hand if they need to. I think the parents are just blushing a bit because now that everyone sees thier kid acting like that on the news, of course their gonna want legal action against the police so they don't look too horribly stupid. But hey if they are showing thier kid the way of life by not accepting responsibilty for their action, and apologizing to and thanking the police ...then i guess the kid doesn't learn very well either. I wouldn't have smacked her, or anything violent, but restraint needed to be used to prevent her from hurting herself, others, and public property. Any questions?

I completely agree with Nac.
I have 4 siblings and I am the oldest. And I have a huge family. I would know.

Nac - yes in fact I would have many questions but I guess I would not get the answers...
Continue to handcuff your kids, punish them, praise your authorities and obey the law and everything will be just fine.

*sigh
It was one of the only things they could do in that situation, yes.

Just read everything in this thread, and I think some of you have missed something when you say it's the parent's responsibility to raise a child so they dont' act out like that.
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY HORRIBLE PARENTS ARE OUT THERE THAT COULD GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT THE CHILD THEY BROUGHT INTO THE WORLD?
Seriously, that girl is very likely acting out with aggression because she sees it in her daily life EVERY DAY.
Mother and father, mother and boyfriend, whoever, getting into fights, cursing, throwing things at each other. Maybe she has brothers and sisters that fight, maybe it's all she knows. So what do you expect, do you expect a home situation like that to promote that 5 year old girl minding teachers, doing what she's told?
No way. Not at all.

If that is your view, give the teachers more say, responsibility and rights to discipline to raise that child.
but when every teacher is faced with 30 - 120 potential lawsuits a day, i guarantee they sit back , say what is needed and call for help
taking responsiblity in the classroom with a kid = taking responsibility in a courtroom with a parent
the teachers are screwed the system is stacked up against them and the cops have handcuffs and the right to physically handle the child
to everyone opposing the handcuffs; what would you have done?
- mg330
Instead of handcuffs?
Hmm, maybe have Montel Williams or Maury Povich on standby for a counseling session?

it's the parent's fucking responsibilty to raise a child outside of the horrible environment you mentioned.
THAT'S WHAT BEING A PARENT IS.
and if you can't provide a safe and healthy environment for your children, YOU SHOULD NOT BE HAVING CHILDREN
these ghetto fucks need to be sterilized
- version30
mg33- i was asking you a serious question and anyone else who bemaons the handcuffs.
did you read the article?
30 min of altercation before she was taken into a room that she destroyed she went off for an hour?
what about the kids that did nothing wrong and had their day disrupted?
seriously, what would you have done?
- version30
*agrees 100% w/ scarabin
- gabriel20
you do realize that if she hadn't been handcuffed and had hurt another child or teacher the police could be sued for that as well? lose-lose situation for the cops there
- vburo0
sue sue sue
fucking state of paranoia you all live in.
whatever happened to reason..
- mg330
scarabin, I think you were agreeing with me?
I see what you are saying, but how is that possible when the parents are the problem?I agree that it is the parent's responsibility to raise a child outside of that environment. But when they are the root of the problem, when they don't look at the situation and say, "This isn't good for my child," then their responsibility is thrown down the toilet by their own lack of action.
So, to that point, I guess I agree with the sterilization comment.
