What I always have difficulty with, in the case of those who proclaim themselves to be christian is the readiness to revert to old testament style retribution.
(SORRY ALREADY but it illustrates the point perfectly)
Bush and Blair both claim to be devout christians. What interests me is how their actions fit in with their beliefs....
After all to call yourself christian you must subscribe to christs teachings, which to the best of my knowledge say
"when struck, turn the other cheek"
and not
"strike opponents with great force before they get a chance to strike you."
Can a devout pro-war christian shed any light on this quandary?
*I keep my true beliefs to myself because they are not open to discussion and invariably people want to talk about it.

This gets into some hefty Soteriology, but when we receive Christ, as a free gift, the forgiveness he provided for at the cross is appropriated to us. In other words, the full funds are shifted to our account and God no longer sees us, but rather sees us clothed in Christ...
# Romans 6:23 -
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. :)

so what's so good about this Jesus/God love then? why should i want it so bad? Is it like being on a 1000 e's??

emecks, I believe in avoiding war at all possible costs. A strict - only in self defense policy. Honestly, I don't know how professing Christians can be pro-war. Seems inconsistant with what Christ taught.

he wont tell me what this God love is like :( Is it like the love of a man and a fine cuban cigar? or like the way i love my homey's? or like hot man love?

kuz, the love of Christ has been a life-changing thing for me. It's unconditional and it's empowering. When I consider that I was born helpless in my sin nature with nothing I could to change it, and that Christ stood in my place and took the punishment I deserved, it's pretty overwhelming. Knowing this and knowing that whatever I do to screw up, no matter how bad, I'm still loved and embraced by a perfect father.

I see nothing in scripture to support the Catholic doctrine of purgatory.

I believe that purgatory is just another repercussion of Constantine marrying early Christianity with Greek paganism circa 4th century AD.

discipler, this is what gets me about your position
"When I consider that I was born helpless in my sin nature with nothing I could to change it,"
What made you feel that way about your life? I don't feeel that weight on my shoulders, I just don't get it.
Strange in my opinion, though you've every right, also makes me feel like I'm being judged, not by a God, but by you for not seeing the way you do. Might explain why people get passionate about shouting you down. Do you mean to come across that way? :)
- discipler0
_smk, it's not that I felt any weight. In fact, before my conversion, I was quite happy albeit with a nagging sense of something missing. What I realized though, is that the Bible teaches that everyone is born with a sin nature and that everyone is in need of redemption. It's a global predicament that we all share and nothing to perceive as judgemental. :) I'm forgiven, but FAR from perfect.
