quark to indesign

yo my qbn peeps, I have a quick question for you guys (and gals):
I just got an offer for a freelance gig to transfer a quark file (180 pages) to an indesign file. Anybody have a rough estimate of how long this sort of thing will take? I haven't used indesign to transfer quark files in a about 3yrs, so I am a lil rusty at this point and I need to get the estimate for hours in today.

lulu

Yo,

Anybody out there have any experience with lulu for printed portfolio pieces (books)? I participated in a student portfolio review this past summer and the students had killer books: granted the work was reflective of their experience/level, but the printing of the pieces was awesome.

Anyways, anybody have experience with having books printed? If so, can you recommend the company?

lightbox question

I was wondering if anyone could answer a quick question for me? I am attempting to create groups of images on my site with lightbox, similar to how it is done on this site:

http://eslercreative.com/work.ht…

I guess my question is how do you create those individual groups? Would you create four individual image folders in your lightbox file, or is it something in the scripting?

my jpegs suck ass

as you can probably guess from my post: my jpegs suck ass. I am creating vector images in illustrator and when I save for web (apple+cmnd+shift+s) my images leave alot to be desired. Any of you web-heads out there have a method for saving vectors without losing image quality?

CSS developer/programmer help

Good afternoon all,

I am designing a personal portfolio site. And although I know a little DW (I am just getting into div tags/ versus tables. apparently tables are the enemy - lol -) Its imperative that I learn to program a site with CSS functionality, so I was hoping that a developer could show me how to create the site, and oversee the process. It would be a hands-off kind of situation, where the programmer wouldn't have to program anything unless it became absolutely necessary for him to do so. So I guess that the position would be more of a consultation gig. Again, with you not having to step in unless absolutely necessary.

Anybody out there interested? I would prefer that the developer be a chi-town native, but that isn't absolutely necessary.

Logo's for designers

I'm in the process of developing a mark for myself, but I have hit a considerable roadblock; I can't settle on one idea. No idea seems good enough. Does anyone have some examples of designers/studios with really great Marks?

Money VS Design

Okay here it is, the burning question. Which to chose money or design. I was recently laid of from my gig at a design studio. However, it wasn't really a big deal because I was really ready to quit anyways; I mean really ready. The good news is that I produced some really great design there and as a result, I have had a couple of really good interviews. To be more specific, I got laid off two weeks ago and since then I had 8 interviews. In any event, yesterday I was offered a really great offer for a senior design position. The offer pays about 20,000 more than I was making at the last position. Great huh? The kicker is that the same day I got the offer, I was contacted about an interview at a really great design firm in chicago. When I say great, I mean THEE great design firm in chicago; c'mon, we all know who they are. So here is the question; Should I accept the position (I'll be heading the design dept (in-house, ugh) or should I risk it for a chance at the big opportunity. Mind you that I have to give my decision on the offer by Monday.

Flash Developer wanted

Coleman Partners, an advertising agency and brand consultancy located in downtown Chicago, is currently looking for a skilled flash programmer to help on the back end development for a forthcoming web project.

The project is a flash site for a pro bono client called The Day School, a school for kids who have struggled in traditional learning environments. The website is the culmination of an entire identity system which includes logo, marketing strategy, stationary and a newsletter. The design is energetic and youthful; this should prove to be an exciting project.

We seek a programmer with the skills and desire to build an exciting website for a socially responsible organization. All interested developers should forward samples to Lashun F. Tines at and I will contact you personally upon review of your samples.
