is there anyone out in qbn land that has an idea(or an easy to replicate demo) on how to create this sort of gallery for a site? I want to suggest this sort of gallery in a proposal, but I won't do so unless I am sure that I can do it:

if it is the slideshow it is using SmoothGallery

yup it is using smooth Gallery with a Light box see examples from links up there ^^
if you have worked with js frameworks it should not be that bad to put together
