Okay here it is, the burning question. Which to chose money or design. I was recently laid of from my gig at a design studio. However, it wasn't really a big deal because I was really ready to quit anyways; I mean really ready. The good news is that I produced some really great design there and as a result, I have had a couple of really good interviews. To be more specific, I got laid off two weeks ago and since then I had 8 interviews. In any event, yesterday I was offered a really great offer for a senior design position. The offer pays about 20,000 more than I was making at the last position. Great huh? The kicker is that the same day I got the offer, I was contacted about an interview at a really great design firm in chicago. When I say great, I mean THEE great design firm in chicago; c'mon, we all know who they are. So here is the question; Should I accept the position (I'll be heading the design dept (in-house, ugh) or should I risk it for a chance at the big opportunity. Mind you that I have to give my decision on the offer by Monday.

excuse my ignorance but who in chicago?

and also, always go with what will make you happier, which often translates to 'not the money'.

I'd risk the chance at the big opportunity for two reasons, one you don't seem too enamoured with the other place and two, as you said it's a great agency. However I would contact el and say that you're excited by the prospect but you've been offered another job at a higher rate, try to negotiate your rate with el, don't just take the first offer. Best of luck whatever you decide.

What monNom said. This isn't really that difficult of a choice.

I've been in this situation before (not for any mega sweet agencies though). I think I would take the offer you have, afterall if this mega huge agency in Chicago is that good, it is probably really hard to get in. They could potentially have a line of other peeps to interview, which may slim you chances down of getting the job.

I forgot to mention that I interned at this place many moons ago. It will probably increase my chance of getting in.

Money is not everything. Quality and your career are everything. I guess my advice for you is to look at where you want to be in a few years. What do you want to look back on and say you've accomplished. In my mind, go with the killer company!

The way I see it, you say yes to the offer. There will probably be a 2 week or month window before you start. In the meantime, you have the interview with the top ad firm. Your confidence will be much higher if you have the other offer as a backup.
