Transfer sets in Font Explorer X Pro (Mac)? Feb 28, 13, 1:01 p.m.

Tried searching online for a solution but to no avail. Wondering if folks here have ever come across this issue and know how to workaround it.

So got a shiny new iMac and am in the process of transferring my font sets from Font Explorer X Pro from one Mac to another that also has Font Explorer X Pro installed (the latest version).

I have a separate Fonts folder outside of the library where I store all my fonts. I use Font Explorer X for organizing different fonts for different client and their different projects (a lot of projects).

I know you can export a FEX file to transfer sets. However, my user name is slightly different on my new Mac (literally just has an extra "-T" in the user name). So when I import the FEX file onto the new Mac, it imports the sets but doesn't have ANY of the font files in the sets!!! Argggh.

Does anyone know of a way to possibly edit the FEX file to be able to change the directory? I'm wondering if I do that then it will be able to locate the font files and set up the transfer correctly.

Anyone here know of any freelance 3D folks based in the US? NYC preferable but not necessary.

(Searched Q B N on Google but only found old links or didn't find posts with good links. Sorry (K)rop, this is needed asap, no time for a posting).

This would be happening ASAP (as in starting tomorrow and needing it in a few days at most). I'm basically helping an ad agency client of mine trying to lower costs for a project (They've gotten quotes from the big broadcast production companies and did a photo-shoot to think about using stills but I'm reco-ing that they go CGI and find a freelancer instead). You'd be working directly through the ad agency (not me), so it could be a great lead-in for more work through them as I know they need 3D freelance resources all the time. They are a very major ad agency btw.

We're basically looking for someone who knows where to find a free 3D model online of a helicopter (to keep costs down), and then animate it rotating in space with the heli-blades and all. The heli would do a 180 degree turn or so in 3D space, would need a loop of the blades spinning, and then a separate clip of the blades coming to a stop. Might need a pilot in the seat but not entirely sure of that. Obviously, it needs to look good so you should have experience doing quality work. If you think you can model something like this from scratch and still keep costs down, all the better. I have no clue what their budget is.

I'll be taking that video render sequence and animating it around in Flash and having it land in a banner.

Anywho, shoot me an email if you know anyone and if they have an idea of what this would cost.

Firewire 800 Hub? May 10, 11, 7:43 a.m.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Does it slow performance? Does it even work? I have a 17" MBP from late 2009 and it only has 1 Firewire 800 port but I want to get additional external drives. I have USB2.0 external drives but they're super slow in comparison with FW800.

So, an opportunity came about to be a vendor for an ad agency. Problem is, they require business insurance -- a lot of it. $5 Million in General Liability, $5 Million in Errors & Omissions, and Workers Comp. I just got quoted through The Hartford and it came out to over $18,000 per year (Errors & Omissions by itself was $15k).

So far the few that I have spoke to about this (who have their own small studios), say that they only carry at the most $2M in General Liability (which is only like $2k a year, not bad). However, this specific agency requires the big one -- Errors and Omissions.

Do any of you have business insurance and have any of you come across a situation with needing 'this' much insurance? I'm wondering what my options are and if any of you know anything about this. This is the first agency that has asked for this. $18K is a lot to dish out just to bid on projects. Keep in mind that I'm still a one man shop.

So I've always sent project links to clients via email. I format the email using simple HTML in Mail. (I select the text and just add a link and then bold it). Works great and all but I thought it would be nice and more professional to have some sort of extranet-type thing that looks good, is branded, is simple super to use and access, etc. This way my clients only have to check one place for links and project files, without having to go through emails. Email has worked fine for the most part but the problem comes about where I'm working with many links for one client.

I've used BaseCamp a few times before but just think it's a bit of overkill for what I need. BaseCamp isn't complicated but is just too much for what I need (plus it's not that configurable as far as the design of it goes).

I'm looking for something even more simple. Literally a way for a client to login to a page, see my logo along with a list of links that are nicely formatted or even some other way of organizing by project. When clicked, the links would bring you to another page where you could preview the work, either in the same window or in a new window. It would mainly to see Flash-based animations. It would be nice to have the ability to include project files somewhere too (or even a built in way for file sharing). Yeah, I know I could do this with HTML but I'm looking for something that's pre-built, something where I don't have to mess with any code. Like a system where I can create links, post files, etc etc from the same place -- without having to generate code first. Something that I can customize too.

I don't care about being able to post comments, see how long someone has been logged in for, and dates for everything.

If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions, even to companies or individuals that are able to make something custom, it would be much appreciated.

Does anyone know how to get SWF focus when coming to a Flash page or going back to it...to get MouseWheel focus back specifically?

I've searched the goog for answers and all I've found was the typical way to get "textfield" focus using Javascript and External Interface. Not what I need to do. I've also found a couple of other tricks but NONE of them allow MouseWheel focus. I'm also trying to avoid the typical "Click To Reactivate" screen workaround.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the internet on a flat panel TV? Wireless preferred...

Specifically, I want to be able to watch Lynda.com tutorials on the big screen (they're QT movies embedded in a page). I usually have the time to study at night, after work. The last place I want to be is at the desk. So I figure I could lay down in bed and watch some tutes on the TV.

I've searched and found very few things. Wondering if anyone has done this or knows of things that do this- well.

Passing Flash Variables Apr 4, 08, 1:16 p.m.

Is there a way to pass variables to and from SWF files on different HTML pages other than using the query string and setting it directly inside of the html flashvars param? I've only known about the query string and FlashVars methods. Maybe some other scripting language? Something thats not too overly-complicated, another method that's just as easy. I just don't like having the url address having variables on the end of it, especially b/c of bookmarking. Any help would be appreciated.

Eh, is it just me or is QBN changing as I type this. New homepage section at the bottom. There's also a "Follow" link at the top of the PV, if you click it then says "Stay", not sure what thats about. What happened to the PBC etc. Anyone else seeing this or is my computer fudged up?

To all NT freelancers:
If you are going to charge a rate for the entire day, does that mean an 8-hour shift ? What if they don't start work until late in the afternoon, does thsi mean you strat an eight hout dhift at like 4pm and don't stop until midnight? Or.....do you start at 9am and let the client know that his clock is running and that your charging him, otherwise why not just do an hourly rate? What are the pro's and cons of charging for the entire day? Let me know your thoughts.

FLASH Field Focus help! Nov 25, 03, 9:32 a.m.

I have a quick question regarding form filed focus in Macromedia Flash. I currently have a script that tells my flash app to make the first field active but it doesn't work unless the flash player is clicked....this is when the html file that holds the swf is opened. Is there any 3rd party tool, that will make the flash player the active program so that I can make the field have its blinker on when the html page is opened? Thanks.
