Passing Flash Variables 33 Responses

Is there a way to pass variables to and from SWF files on different HTML pages other than using the query string and setting it directly inside of the html flashvars param? I've only known about the query string and FlashVars methods. Maybe some other scripting language? Something thats not too overly-complicated, another method that's just as easy. I just don't like having the url address having variables on the end of it, especially b/c of bookmarking. Any help would be appreciated.

swfObject sends variables to Flash to notify the player what 'section' to load based on what's entered into the address bar... perhaps the same method (or even swfObject) can be used and your variable just comes from the address bar as apposed to something in the html?
