New Macbooks - finally

So, the new generation of Macbooks and Macbook Pros hit the street. http://www.apple.com

Reactions?

I'm personally looking forward to see if there's any improvement in speed, when using CS3.

Identity work prices?

How do you charge for corporate visual identity work, such as a new logo for a corporation?

It's usually easy to convince a customer that a website (which is what I work with, mostly) must be of a certain price as it is a fairly comprehensive product. A logo, however, would often be perceived as a much simpler product - though it often isn't. Much time is usually spent figuring out the best solution, in my experience.

Do you charge per hour or give a fixed price?
How do they respond to that?

Your physical 'persona'

How do you -- as a designer -- present yourself to clients, wheen meeting?

Do you try to present yourself as a creative person, and reflect that in the way you dress etc., or do you go for something more formal and business-like maybe?

Of course it must depend on your personality, but I'd find it interesting to hear if people reflect over this. Obviously showing up in speedos isn't much good (regretfully).

'Faecal'?

I'm looking for a specific blog about design and art that's called something like Faecal.

I cannot find it on Google. Did they shut down?

Anyone?

CSS problem

I'm having trouble forcing IE 6 to render a conditional stylesheet. It usually works, but now it doesn't for some reason.

In the HTML doc:

<!--<![if gte IE 5.5]>
<link href="style/ie6_compatibility.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
<![endif]-->

The CSS:

#logo {
filter:progid:DXImageTransform.M…
filter:progid:DXImageTransform.M…
width: 189px;
height: 58px;
}

The above should apply Microsoft's AlphaImageLoader Filter to a PNG-24 that uses transparency. I never experienced this problem before.

Tidy up that CSS

Does anyone know of a tool that is able to tidy up a stylesheet, based on which elements, IDs and classes etc. that is used in a specific HTML document?

I'm working on a collaborative project and the CSS has grown beyond control. A lot of the CSS doesn't apply to the HTML anymore, but it would be hell to check it all manually.

Any tips?

Freelance question

Say you have a client that hired you to design a site, and they start telling you which fonts to use, where to place elements, which colors to give them etc. With out really giving art direction, or knowing much about design really. That's the thing.

What do you do?
1. "Yes massa."
2. Ask them to reconsider, if their ideas wouldn't work.
3. Something else?

Photoshop gradients

How do you avoid visible lines in gradients, made with Photoshop, and make a smoother transition?

I've tried adding gaussian blur and noise, with Noise Filter, but the problem remains.
