23kon is right. Asking for money through a website is weird, especially when there's no actual goal. This happens to people all the time. Whether he was friends with QBN or not, the guy's got to have ACTUAL friends and family to help him through this. I feel bad mostly for his pets who died in the fire.

    • His pets are dead. He has to live through it...Jaline
    • I do agree with what you are saying, but who cares. Let people donate if they want to.Jaline
    • NT is not helping him. All they are allowing is my post to stay active. I would understand if they decided to take it down. CPLUV did.Paul

I can't believe you just compared this to POBF.

This is just stuff in a flat. Given the same circumstances, I'd just feel lucky to have not been sleeping there when the fire ripped through.

It's just stuff - largely unnecessary I'd wager (not like your life). I'd be embarrassed if my friends thought asking the internet for help was necessary.

    • so burn all your stuff if its largely unnecessary.AllenF
    • AllenF, if you're really his brother shouldn't you be like, I don't know, NOT ON QBN and out helping him???Lt_Jack_Hammer
    • yeh right, totally, and i donated. so dont bash me for commeting bro allen.e-pill
    • stop fighting with people here and go help your brother with real support.e-pill

I'd be really gutted if my pets were in there, wish there was something we could do for them. RIP little buddies.

And to those who question the motives of Paul et al. Please think of justin when he comes here and reads this. If you don't want to help, just don't. Why make a big deal about it here?

  • gramme0

Horrible news, but did they not have renter's insurance?

  • 5timuli0

Sorry to hear about your lil' ones Justin, my heart goes out to you both. Hope you get back on your feet as soon as you can.

I live and work in Conshy and saw the extent of the fires first-hand. I actually enquired about moving to those apartments a couple of weeks back. It scared me to think this could've easily happened to me. I really don't know what I'd do without my wife and dogs.

    All the best,
    Joe.

Shit, justin - he was clone, cloned, version3 etc.. right? That guy reminded me of me: self-absorbed douchebag with few redeeming qualities - That's a compliment

i'd be much more moved to give to someone i know than some anonymous bum in the congo. That is fucking harsh what has happened to him.

NB: All the twats, kindly get off your moral high horse: if you give a shit, give something or STFU (shut the fuck up)

You all need to really find something better to do than argue over if it's better to give to one person or the another. Just give to both, one or none. Now go make your graphical art.

    • Well said. Time to kern.Paul
    • Aye Mon Then.
Jesus, a thread that actually has a purpose finally and everyone flips their whig.
      flavorful

You guys are still arguing and not kerning. Tisk Tisk.

Your clients are very mad at you now since they won't get their banner ad promoting the newest best energy drink.

  • cannonball0

I think the question here is... is this the right channel to be asking for this kind of help?

  • janne760

sorry for killing this thread. :'(

Funny really, there are millions of people without any possessions, shelter or food around the world, and just become some guy had all of it before and suddenly lost it he becomes an important case.

I don't mean to be a wanker and I feel for the guy, its a great shame Im sure, but its interesting to think about.

Its like the person who doesn't care about gun crime until their son gets shot and then its all of a sudden a complete outrage.

Just being a wanker really, pointing out the human condition, hope the guy gets sorted out.

you'll notice I didn't compare this situation to POBF, I equated QBNs support of the causes. They're the same intention from a moderator point of view.

I don't think anyone here is expecting to replace his flat screen TV or his furniture. But if you, god forbid, ever live through something like this, luckily I haven't but my grandmother did twice, you'll realize that its not as simple as getting a check cut from insurance and you're on your way. It takes time, you don't have any of the paperwork you need to even figure out how to get a hold of your insurance. You don't have the forms of ID to get easy access to your financial institutions.

Your computer with all of your bookmarks, passwords, documents, everything, gone. Your backup on your external hard drive, gone. The clothes you're wearing are all you've got. And to add insult to this injury his pets are dead too.

All I'm saying is that the people that are giving here are probably giving elsewhere, too. So is your intention just to stop people from giving extra money to someone in need? If you don't want to than thats fine but whats the goal here?

  • cannonball0

    What about homeowner's insurance?

    • I think he just moved there this month or so and maybe didnt get it yet.same
  • ninjasavant0

The way I see it is that there's a lot of people in need, I used to be one of them. When I was sleeping in my car, and couch surfing, and surviving off of other people's leftovers. I was damn glad that I had my health but more importantly I was grateful to the people who picked up a meal for me and let me sleep on their couch so I could get through school.

Other people having it worse helped keep things in perspective but its true, its a lot different when its your life. And I'm really sorry about all of the people in the world who suffer, its part of the reason why I participate so heavily in microfinance at kiva.org and charitable donations.

The thing about Justin's situation is that he doesn't live in a third world country, he lives in (some of) our country and to a broader extent, all of our society. We've set a standard of living that is hard to live beneath. Even when I had nothing at least I had something. Right now Justin has more nothing than I ever did and in this society thats a hard road to look down.

Its because of the kindness of friends and strangers that I've made it this far. And its because of their kindness that I want to help everyone I can. If Jusin's situation doesn't move you to help then sobeit. But the fact that you are on a computer reading this shows that you have more than most in the world and I hope you realize your position and help bring somebody get closer to surviving.

    Joe,
Such a small world we live in. I viewed your website and see that you work for Greg at 20nine Studios. I helped him out on the JLowe site last year.

Anyways, I wanna thank you for your concern. If we decide to move back to Conshy, we should grab a drink at the Pub or some lunch at Boathouse.

    Best,
    J

I hope my $10 helps. Good luck. I hope the money makes it to you Justin.

hench i think it is a good point. what if it was one of the designer who doesnt have more well known friends who has the power to publicize it more? or what if he wasnt even talented? would no one care?

i dont think its that people dont care, its more about receptiveness of the message depending on who and where they said it.

i remember when one of the guy here said he only could afford bread to eat for about 3-4 weeks before he could get paid, someone just sent him like $100 to help out. it happens. but depends on how close with you are with that person.

i guess in this sad tragedy maybe there is an experiment that can be measured on communal behavior with the design(?) online community.

    • someone here sent someone a pizza when they were starving one. i thought that was super coolspendogg
    • Brooke.Jaline
    • yes brooke did that!!!
      she is one fine person!!!
      i remember that day.
