I really enjoy QBN. I've considered it a healthy inspirational distraction from work for quite a while. I do enjoy it most when design and coding topics pop up in the list. I think the last time I contributed was 10 years ago. I'm sorry. I would hate to see QBN go, but I would love to have a revival of the overall design conversation. Back then, QBN kept me thinking on a higher level when it came to new ideas with most of the work I did out in the world.

I really do miss the old homepage. It showed the latest and greatest in current thread topics as well as design news.

I think QBN needs some renovations, who's the owners? Do they have any plans for the future of QBN?

I think QBN would need :

    - An updated websites with more features (see Dischord forum for example of modern forums functions)
    - Opening the doors to new members ASAP
    - More moderators
    - Label system to clearly mark sensitive content and have the option to turn off sensitive content in our profile options

I dont know, but I think we should do something or this community will slowly vanish in the next 5 to 10 years, I'm sure.

    • I think the trolling and the sensitive content are the two principal reason of why people are quitting QBNBennn
    • The side-notes is one of the best feature of this website, we should keep it at all cost.Bennn
    • Surely deathboy agrees.ben_

A couple of suggestions and everyone goes berserk

    Bennn top-left corner:

Keep all them threads, just hide the non-design related ones under another "sub-menu".

    • lolBennn
    • "hidden" or "private" threads are a good idea in my viewrenderedred
    • We can also just make the NSFW "private", for logged-in users only. It ain't much but it's honest work.Maaku

Social Engineering probably isn't the key to greater engagement and wider participation.

    • Are you saying that censoring pornography is "social engineering" - it's just as much engineering having it on there too - you're just too washed to knowcanoe

I love you Benn, but you seem to have a more-than-mild obsession with seeing QBN as more than most of us do, which is a virtual clubhouse of acquaintances with digital friendships going on 15+ years, no more / no less. So many online communities have withered as people have created Facebook groups to cover a myriad of topics and purposes.

The site won't and isn't going away; you don't have to worry about that at all. It's sort of a microcosm of society these days comprised of a majority of us who have been here for quite a long time. We closed membership because certain adults couldn't be trusted to be mature and responsible and not act like complete lunatics, which sucks because we were occasionally attracting new members.

Yes, it would be nice for QBN to grow. Yes it would be nice to have a greater focus on design topics. Yes, it would behoove us to get rid of NSFW content, COTD, etc. to help make the place a bit more presentable to new members, especially women, who these days probably don't feel very welcome to a site with the NSFW content here. Truth be told, we don't need that stuff here at all. People can make a sub-Reddit instantly to post NSFW content to their heart's content.

    You said it yourself, Benn:
"QBN isnt a design forum since many years now. Its a place to have fun and communicate with people."

That was my point up above. Long ago NT/QBN was some kind of epicenter of discussion / sharing / bragging / complimenting, etc. and it was great at the time. Things change. People grow up, get more serious in careers and lives and families and other responsibilities. If you can just view this place (for the time being) as a group of people who have all known each other and developed varying levels of digital friendships, then it's a good place. You just need to be content with that. :)

    • I would back getting rid of cotd, and nsfw thread

I miss the old days when we had fun engaging each other with "type connect" sessions and "print exchange," FMT and what nots.

My take is that those days were rad because we had no myspace, facebook, twitter etc. to bounce around.

I wish the younger generation would think up fun activities like that, but there is just too much out there nowadays to hold interest like we used to do.

    • Have some really nice pieces from those trades.ben_

I still think that if QBN is now a closed community, the website should be accessible via a password and be closed to the public.

I dont understand why we should make a show for all those lurkers.

    @mg33
I hear you, you got good points. If this is clear for everyone, that QBN is now a closed community of old members, i'm ok with this, I will stop thinking of the end of QBN. It's now clear.

But you have to admit that QBN is slowly but surely vanishing, we're losing members every years. If that the destiny of the QBN, so be it. I will follow the QBN to its death :)

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
One thing tho, if QBN is now a closed community of old members, I REALLY think that this website should be CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC and accessible with a password only.

For real, whats the point of having QBN public if no one can join in?

I really feel like we're a bunch of friends in a house and there's many people outside watching us thru the window, its very creepy and weird. We have no idea of how many lurkers are around here.

We're a closed community, well let's be closed for real, ask the owners to close QBN to the public. It will change nothing to our experience on this forum.
