My 2.5 year old has started to get into trains in a big way. OMFG where has this been all my life. i think im even more excited than him #fml

My dad had an entire massive fucking diorama built up for his motherfucking model railways, monopolising all the space in the basement of one of the houses we lived in when I was growing up. Think one giant Warhammer diorama. Couldn't do anything in the basement, or even store anything, because of the space it took up.
Even at 7 years old, I thought this was weird behaviour from a grown man.
- I'm not saying you're weirdo ... just don't go full weirdo with a dio that spans an entire floor of the house, made to look like a fully populated village.Continuity
- why? Its what he loved to do?mugwart
- you mean this guy bought his own house, used his own money, and built a model of something he enjoyed? how dare he?imbecile

- +1 for passionate dadrobotron3k
- -1 for dad also driving the family to the brink of bankruptcy because he kept blowing money on his 'passion', and ran up exorbitant credit card bills.Continuity

- Actually, he did. And I hated it.Continuity
- Ah, I see... German dad. Now I understand. God bless you.robotron3k
- Well getting family in debt isn't the best way to go about things!mugwart
- lol @ robo trying to score petty nationalist points, but getting it all completely wrongdetritus

- I love the aesthetic of Brio.. but does it really need that fucking branding all over it?detritus
- it's the little train on their site...the branding is only needed there, not even sure you can buy it like that:)uan
- We have tons of Brio. No logo insight.Hayzilla
- Ah, good. I remember it from when I was a kid and was just a bit horrified by < this. It's like it's prepping kids for corporatismâ„¢detritus
- common d, nobody in their right mind would do that, who would target innocent minds with advertisement?uan

My grandfather gave me a Lionel Santa Fe complete train set from the 50's when I was a boy. My dad and I built a rather crude diorama in our basement and I would beat the crap out of that train set. Full throttle around the turns making it derail and crash on purpose. I still have it and all the original boxes. It's a little beat up but it still runs and I'm planning on making a better diorama with my sons when they get a little older.
- I have a special place in my heart for Lionel trains.utopian

I took my young sons to a model train show this year and the average age was 7 or 77. There's a lot of strange old men out there.

My grandpa was quite into this too. It was much more culturally common back then too. And the design of the packaging is quite a nice time capsule too. I'm not into this, but I can see why people: nice little escape to a perfect world. And some of the detailing of these dioramas are amazing. Keep at it!

My dad had a set and assembled a few model buildings of landmarks where he grew up in Missouri. Seems like a journey-is-the-goal hobby by building it up and putting all these little details into it. Us kids would just try to make the trains crash or wacky scenarios at the road crossings haha

trainsets will likely always happen when you have this kinda reaction to real trains:
