So the wife and I just bought a place and we are clearing through the boxes etc...
I decided last night that we need to stop pissing around putting off 'getting the apartment DONE' as far as furniture...
I'd like to buy some bedroom furniture - dressers, night stands etc...
Could you recommend some affordable places...
IKEA - Im 40 and over it
Crate and Barrel - Overpriced
West Elm - don't mind it but shite and overpricedThink modern classics if that helps
Thank you stylish people

if I were you and knew generally what I wanted, I'd keep an eye out on craigslist. it may take some time but you can get some pretty amazing stuff on there for way cheaper.

probably stating the obvious haha, but seriously, dressers and credenzas and mid-century couches and chairs are abundant.

have it built
- this is also a great option. if you plan on keeping it to hand down, there is nothing better than handmade.lvl_13
- Not affordable though?monospaced
- Yeah, great idea to look into but that can't be cheap.CyBrainX

You get what you pay for.
Room & Board, imho, is the best 'value' I've seen. Impeccable quality, but it's not cheap stuff.
West Elm is decent quality and reasonably priced, but not near the quality of R&B.
- room and board quality is equivalent to heirloom production. it will last 100 years. west elm doesn't offer the same quality imo.lvl_13
- so basically just repeating what you said hah!lvl_13
- We've had a couch (Metro) from R&B for several years, use it in our basement now and just got the Metro sectional for our living room.mg33
- We've also got the Hudson dresser and nightstands in maple/charcoal, like this - https://i.pinimg.com…mg33

Blu Dot
ArticleThose would be my two picks for reasonably priced if you want something to last/don't intend on redoing your place ever 3 years or whenever your wife's pinterest board is outta date.
Have fun.

if you have a little dough to burn on select pieces though, my friends do some really nice work for a bunch of Scandinavian/Italian makers - http://msds-studio.ca/projects so a shameless plug for them.

I'll second Room and Board. Expensive stuff, but so worth it if you have the money and want furniture you'll have forever.
Crate and Barrel is a close runner up. We've got a bed with pull out drawers that is built like a tank, and a few other things from there like chairs and coffee tables. Definitely less expensive to a degree than Room and Board.
The thing we've learned over the years buying furniture to "have forever" is to avoid anything that is not solid wood. In some cases you can find good solid wood veneer over MDF but solid wood has always felt more sturdy and long lasting.
