Huh? I see little wrong with it.
What I do think is wrong is people turning art directors and creative directors in less than 10 years.
Even more wrong than employers asking for it.
Employers at least have the excuse of being uninformed.Art direction is not extra senior designer. It's a different game. Or at least it is suppose to be.
Work a few as junior designer, a few as a designer, a few as senior designer, then start seeing if art directing is for you. Without the experience from every aspect of design, who and what would you direct or mentor? People with even less experience?
It's the blind leading the blind.

Two things:
1. Salary = $45K
2. They'll give the position to a hack that has no idea how to do 1/2 of those requirements.

hopefully, the first job will be their website.

Any job description for an Art Director that lists developer skills like CSS and Javascript wasn't written by a creative. I thought that nonsense stopped in the 20th century.
Also, never take a job that breaths a word about PowerPoint.
- especially when the include the phrases like "create breathtaking..." along with PowerPoint. Really?Gnash

It's possible you could get there and find out the company has a great creative dept. but the corporate mgmt. is kind of clueless. It's always worth it to take an interview. At the worst, you will learn something even from idiots. Sometimes job descriptions are ignored for years. I still see Flash skills mentioned now and then.
