I can't sleep on my back because of sleep paralysis.
Almost every night I need white noise to fall asleep. Just put a fan on or the FM radio on fuzz. House mate is so noisey that I've even started wearing silicone ear buds.
Also I sometimes lucid dream. It's incredible and better than any trip or video game.
Every single night since a kid I put myself to to sleep by thinking about movie ideas.

I have a recurring dream...probably 4 or 5 times a year, that I am witness to a major plane crash. Weird. I'm never actually in the crash but am pretty close and see the whole thing go down.

Since about 2014 I fall asleep peacefully in about 5 minutes after closing my eyes. When I dream, I take control.

Years ago my brother sent me a video to watch about becoming lucid and controlling your dreams. As fate would have it I fell asleep with it on in the background and for the first time in my life I had a lucid dream.
I was in a conservatory, looked out the window and saw a huge butterfly, about 5ft wide, flutter by. I remember thinking to myself 'butterfly's aren't that big, I must be dreaming'. At that point I realised I was actually dreaming. I remembered what Don Juan had told Carlos Castaneda about not staring at any one thing in particular as you'll lose it, but instead shift your eyes around from one thing to another. Then I became fully lucid.
There were two old witch like ladies in the conservatory with me and at that point they chuckled to themselves and said 'he's getting it!'.
I managed to manifest in to my hand by will a bottle of corona, which I put down, and then manifested an ash tray (important things). Then I woke up and realised the lucid dream video was playing in the background and must have triggered me.
- I tried every night for about a week to replicate it by leaving the video on when I went to sleep but didn't have another lucid dream until about 6 months laterset

I had a dream in high school that was completely lucid. I wondered what it would be like to life my eyelid while sleeping. I did it once and thought. Wow. It's morning. I didn't expect that. I did it again and the third time I did it, I woke up thinking WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING??

This isn't quite dreaming but I have a mental exercise while falling asleep that I am a pile of sand falling though a metal screen this size of the mattress. The more I fall though the closer I am to sleep.

The other night I kept waking up through the night semi-concious and thinking about how to wire up a large modular synth.
A lot of the stuff in the dream seemed to make sense and it was real complex thinking and really had me worried and concerned in the dream-like state.Woke up in the morning wondering what the fuck it was all about and how I even new such techy stuff that I was thinking about!
