not that sketch doesn't make app layout much easier, but what the fuck do you do when your client just buys sketch and fucks with your designs and sends shit back saying " i think we should do it this way" ?

like at least with photoshop i never had to worry about this level of intrusion

    web designers = hairdressers

"this level of intrusion" -- who's working for whom?

    easy:
use his design ideas as guide. Analyze it, find the problems and come up with good solutions. show him why you are actually relevant in the process.

    • that could be a time issue. extra dance steps.yurimon
    • but its less confrontational if done right. sometimes people just insist.yurimon
    • it's not about debate. It's about collaboration. Clients normally know more about their industries than designers.uan
    • smart designers embrace this knowledge and use it to design better solutions.uan
    • @uan that's what i've been doing but it turns the revision process into a "collaborative" process - it's nutscolin_s

    what does your contract say?

you have to have reasons from your experience why it hinders the project, pros and cons. if it takes more time for you to adjust work, etc. or if its counter productive to your project you have to convince him why. basically you are going to have to do salesesque pitch to convince your client on the negatives vs positives without damaging his ego.

also if its a time issue you are going to have to tell him it takes more time and $$ if you have that luxury. but over all also depends on his personality type from your experience.

Design decisions should be made user needs not individual opinion. If you haven't made this clear, just re-iterate and explain your design choices in a one on one meeting again.

That should make it clear that you are the expert. Not them Which is why they hired you in the first place.

If that fails, go through their sketches and point out anything that impacts on the user and the goals of the project.

If that fails, you're dealing with a wannabe who will destroy the end product so I'd back out now or at least adjust the fee accordingly...

Of course, if you haven't outlined user needs and business goals first then this was bound to happen. And it's your fault.

hah yeah i realize this is my fault - honestly it was more of a favor temporary thing to a client that i wrapped up with last year. was supposed to just be taking screens (photoshop) and switching them to sketch. but then he got the program and started fuckin with things, asking me to do this and do that.

i've been under just a basic 30 day contract (today is the last, whew) and so it hasn't been worth bringing up, but we're pretty behind in terms of what i outlined as an estimated schedule and it's all because of these delays.

so i suppose i am at fault for not being more aggressive, but this client and project are also sort of insane so i'm not overly worried. just was wondering if anyone else ran into similar shit.
