Decided to leave the lesbian space cowboy romance for a later date and instead blasted my way through Last Exit To Brooklyn. Last time I read it was probably over 20 years ago, but it still remained fresh in my mind - although now, some blanks have been filled in and questions answered about certain character's motivations and behaviour - things that I had no knowledge or experience of back then. So in turn, it has become even more brutal and visceral. An incredible piece of writing.

- interesting. withnail was based on a former room mate of his, right?garbage
- obligatory: http://www.youtube.c…garbage
- Yeah, I believe Withnail was semi-autobiographica... Withnail was based on a guy called Vivian https://en.wikipedia…Wolfboy
- Robinson is really angry in this book and he's really gone into the whole masonic conspiracy side of the murders. It's a really compelling argument he sets out.Wolfboy
- yeah. withnail is my spirit animal.
wonder what possessed robinson to write about jack?garbage - At the talk he said he was doing some research into another crime for a screenplay and a detective he was talking to brought up the subject of The Ripper...Wolfboy
- And there was basically a challenge/bet made that he could, through research solve the mystery. He thought it would take 2 years.Wolfboy
- Then when he became convinced there was a huge Masonic cover up/scandal he just got deeper and deeper into research.Wolfboy
- Just bought it. Would have loved to be at the talk. Cheers for the heads up. I am also partly defined by W&I.MrT

In anticipation of the film I am reading High Rise again, for the first time since I became involved in architecture, and it has taken on a whole new perspective and definite subtlety.
Interesting to equate (and recognise) what is written with some of the projects I have worked on over the past few years.

- NO! Seveneves is shit?! Fucksticks, Id recently put it on my list. Do you like his other work?detritus
- I like his other work, and honestly, Seveneves was easily one of the worst books I've ever read. I wanted to like it, but it was just awful.monospaced
- cool for 1/2 the book, about 3/4 way in I wanted to give up, but reluctantly read to the end and threw it on the floor in disgustmonospaced
- Oh, balls. Thanks, I guess. I'd hoped perhaps you'd not read his other stuff and were simply put off by his style :(detritus
- Should've been obvious, I suppose - that branded N is alarmingly close to Nespresso branding!detritus
- Honestly, it didn't feel like I was reading a Stephenson novel. Idea was cool, but the execution was lackluster, and reading it became a chore at the endmonospaced
