Any of you live in Baltimore? This has turned out to be far worse than what happened in Ferguson. Schools closed today, baseball game cancelled last night, a brand new senior citizen's center burned to the ground along with 15+ other buildings.

Don't forget, several thousand people protesting peacefully and media is focusing on the very small percentage that rioted.
- < We need images of that side of the story.Maaku
- True Mono. It was uplifting to see photos in the USA Today article above of neighborhood people cleaning up, thanking the police.mg33

One thing I dont get is. why not burn down the police precincts instead of rioting in your hood where you have to live. if people focused on the po po and their property maybe a stronger political message?
- definitely a stronger response. is that what you think they need, to provoke a deadly response from the police?zenmasterfoo
- Those are just the fires the police allow to start, so they can ask for a bigger budget and buy tanks.i_monk

In the video of "Baltimore mom beats her son for rioting"
Loved this critique from this Professor:
"Let's unpack this mainstream media and State propaganda for a moment in this week's breakdown:
(1) How do we know this is a mother and son?
(2) If violence is not the appropriate response to violence, then why is this being touted as a best practice?
(3) Do we know what her purpose and intention is? Perhaps she's upset that he is doing what he's was doing without proper face covering to protect his identity or his actions may draw undue attention to other more illicit activities they have.
(4) Did we see what he was doing prior? How do we know in which protest activities he was participating or if he was even participating in any protest activities? Could he have just been looking on as a bystander?
(5) Where is the video of the "mother" of the politicians, elected and appointed officials, corporate leaders, and so-called community leaders who helped for decades maintain the economic and social violence upon the Black poor and working class of Baltimore whupping their asses for doing so?"
- Heru Khuti
- Her actions, and his reactions... they speak volumes to their relationship. To think mother/son or similar seems more than natural.monospaced

I know the black community is upset for being treated like a minority in the United States.
My insensitive QBN comment here:
The fact they are a minority - is what allows them to have higher living standards then in the rest of the America's (Carribean, South America, portions of central america) - where the living standard is considerably lower because they are the majority.- I can see the logic that could lead someone to that conclusion, but I don't think the 2 things are as directly connected as you think they are...BuddhaHat
- There are myriad reasons, both economic and social, which would go a lot further in explaining the disparity between blacks in the US and elsewhere...BuddhaHat
- So African American's should be happy with the systemic racism they face daily because they're better off than Carribeans or South Americans?soundsinsilence
- Blacks have made great efforts and strides to assimilate into american middle class but without a strong middlle they would have never have a chance.hotroddy
- Anglo countries (former colonies) w european-descendants as majority have the largest middle class proportional to spanish, portugese, dutch and french colonieshotroddy
- So yes- they should be stoked they are living within a prosperous minority and not q poor majorityhotroddy
- ouch, nobody in the USA should be stoked they are passing with only minimum oppression, it goes against the whole nation's basis for existencemonospaced
- on the other hand, more communities should take advantage of what little is provided, such as a school systemmonospaced
- some of those school systems are a facade for jail. or a pipeline to it. take advantage of what?bklyndroobeki
- I believe that is the fault of the students not the school. They turn it into a jail and don't take education seriously. I'm sure the teachers would love helpmonospaced
- it's not the students fault, its a lot of things, the way kids are raised, and that goes back to lack of opportunities, social disadvantage, etc.Miguex
- Yes some cultures don't take advantage of the opportunities and don't take school seriously. It surely isn't exactly the school itself.monospaced
- Miguex2
- what part don't you agree with? Why is my comment so stupid?hotroddy
- to be completely honest, I have no idea what you are saying. Are you trying to justify the killings based on the fact that they are a minority?Miguex
- Also, perhaps you don't know this, but there are several countries in south america where black people are non-existent. Not that, that has anything to do withMiguex
- police violence, is just an observation to your commentMiguex
- South America where slavery existed - the guyanas, brazil, venezuela, colombia.hotroddy
- All I'm saying is it's sometimes being the minority can benefit.hotroddy
- what is the benefit you speak of?
police brutality? social / economic depravation?Miguex - Refer to standard of living index:
http://en.wikipedia.…hotroddy - Blacks in the USA have highest wealth than anywhere else in Americas.hotroddy
- And whatever they achieved they did through hard work.hotroddy
- its about change. america needs to divide its people for better political outcome. you guys dont learn from communists subversion techniques?yurimon
- Retro-fitting common political strategies to isolated events and claiming conspiracy is wack. Perhaps you should shift your focus to the poisonous police unionsMorning_star
- Crime rate in USA has dropped to the point where I can freely walk around at night without fear. We should be thanking the police unions.hotroddy
- I would like to see you walking the streets of Mexico city, Kingston Jamaica, or Caracs Venezuela at night.hotroddy
- We need some fucking perspective.hotroddy
- Morningstar said wackmonospaced
- Ha ha Mono. I'm trying to get down with the kids.Morning_star
- @hotroddy. I live in a city in which your awesome US politicians believe is a 'no go area' and run by the Taliban. Yet, funnily enough, our police don't...Morning_star
- ...execute people then run and hide behind the unions. They need to take responsibility for their actions.Morning_star

Orioles Executive Vice President John Angelos
“Brett, speaking only for myself, I agree with your point that the principle of peaceful, non-violent protest and the observance of the rule of law is of utmost importance in any society. MLK, Gandhi, Mandela, and all great opposition leaders throughout history have always preached this precept. Further, it is critical that in any democracy investigation must be completed and due process must be honored before any government or police members are judged responsible.
That said, my greater source of personal concern, outrage and sympathy beyond this particular case is focused neither upon one night’s property damage nor upon the acts, but is focused rather upon the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships like China and others, plunged tens of millions of good hard-working Americans into economic devastation, and then followed that action around the nation by diminishing every American’s civil rights protections in order to control an unfairly impoverished population living under an ever-declining standard of living and suffering at the butt end of an ever-more militarized and aggressive surveillance state.
The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance, and other abuses of the Bill of Rights by government pay the true price, an ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importance of any kids’ game played tonight, or ever, at Camden Yards. We need to keep in mind people are suffering and dying around the U.S., and while we are thankful no one was injured at Camden Yards, there is a far bigger picture for poor Americans in Baltimore and everywhere who don’t have jobs and are losing economic civil and legal rights, and this makes inconvenience at a ball game irrelevant in light of the needless suffering government is inflicting upon ordinary Americans.”
- Wow, very well said.BuddhaHat
