Before you find your self, you have to be honest with yourself.
Post your desires and secrets.

I want to be an owl
- yuekit1
The owls are not what they seem
- I will be the best owl ever. I will bite like no one and fight like nothing else.kona

- When all owls are in flight, Earth's specific gravity drops to 0.8. Earth is thus lighter during the night NOT darker.
#owlfacts (Darren Naish appropriation)ORAZAL - Owls have best night vision ever. And when Owls stand in a row and looking forward into the Owl in front of it they collectively can see into infinity.kona
- LOL. That's the spirit!ORAZAL
- A peanut is not a pea, a nut or an owl.

I think we have different understandings of what "knowing yourself" means—and every single one is valid. From determining your true aspirations, dreams and what you will or will not accept in life/relations et al, to literally knowing your history, and what literally makes you you: whether familial, historical, biological, or astronomical. This is not spiritual voodoo. The more you know, the better decisions you can make and the more rich this tapestry becomes. Yeah.

Asians don't have the genetic predisposition for existentialism that white people have.

Well I don't know who I am. But I don't really care at the same time.
- you sound like a typical merican millennial youthyurimon
- explain to me why i need to know my self when this question never come up to my on my own or i don't feel lost.pango
- definitely too old to be millennial.
have you found your self?pango - i am who i am. whatever i do is who i am. the definition of who i am is created by me. no need to find or wonder. or even tell my self who i am.pango

I think lots of people dont know who they really are and are just trying to be like the others. So we're a big bunch of people trying to look like one another in an infinite loop.

"Finding yourself" is the key to spiritual/creative freedom. If you're working in a creative job and seeing people discussing or being preoccupied with finding themselves that's probably the goal they have in mind.
I know for myself the more I pay attention to spirituality, mindfulness and introspection the more I get out of my creative pursuits. I just don't call it "finding myself" because of the cliche idea of running away to the mountains or something, but the concept is the same.
- But what does it mean? What are you really trying find?pango
- Sounds to me you're just trying to find spirituality.pango
- Regarding creativity you're finding inspiration.hype4life
- pango its a process or journey. like i said you have to find the tools of practice to find your answers.yurimon
- what's the answer from someone who has found them self?pango
- I never have the problem of self. Do I need to find it?pango
- its up to you if you need a change in your life. you feel it or desire from your senses. your intuition sometimes can guide you if things are derailed in life.yurimon
- if you dont care then its ok, you made a choice because this other path needs commitment to any change or understanding for yourself.yurimon
- ya nahhhh. i'm alway changing. by the time i've found my self im probably someone else already. i rather just be on my toes and adapt to my surrounding.pango

Regarding *why* some people feel they need to find their self--
You could regard a person's self as having two parts: an inward existence and an outward existence. Your inward existence is who you deeply feel that you are, how you define yourself, your values, how you are different from others. Your outward existence is how you believe other people perceive you, your willingness to live up to other people's expectations, and your willingness to follow other people's values.
For many people, they are for much of their lives upswept in the expectations of everyone around them. They don't see out from their own eyes (as a subject), they see themselves as they believe those around them see them (as an object). These people ask themselves 'why' they do and believe the things they do.
To go "find their self" they have to remove themselves from the historical context of their life that has defined and controlled them. They go backpacking, move away, break off relationships, and become an isolated thing. They see what it's like not to live as an object, but to explore for once as a true subject.
I think it's healthy to remove yourself periodically from the context of your life. Take away your friends, your house, your possessions, your job-- what's left?

- I would add to this that modern life such as entertainment, work, education, culture is more of a signal scramble of people and indoctrinationyurimon
- into a system or machine for purpose of extorting energy as opposed to a spiritual systemyurimon
