I have never been able to figure how anchor points are set when you draw a simple shape layer. Is there a way to make the anchor point center by default instead of Mars?
Thanks in advance.

http://goo.gl/Whu5fN <---script that may be useful.
It usually defaults to the center of your composition.
Solve would be to crop the scene to where you are only using it. "Trim Comp to Region of Interest."- Nice. adobe should really do something about this.CyBrainX

Shape layers are different than ur regular layers. You can have a bunch of shapes in one layer, like a group, and even add more later on. The individual shapes should already be centered. The 'grouping' of shapes is what's in your transform (even if there's only one shape). Just go in using the Pan Behind tool and adjust the group's anchor.
- Adjusting the anchor with the Pan tool is what I've been doing but i's a pain in the ass.CyBrainX

I've got a technique for squares and circles, to make their anchor point perfectly on the center.
just double click on the "shape layer" button, if you do that, it will create a circle or a rectangle right in the middle of the screen with the comp size.
then I go to the shape properties and make its size equal (like the circle will be 1920x1080, it should be 1080x1080 to be perfect and not oval)
that works great with those shapes, but for paths drawn by hand theres nothing you can do, but use a script, or set the anchor by hand using Y tool
- Yeah, I have done that before. That was the answer I forgot I already knew. Good show, sir.CyBrainX

A bit off topic but another cool thing to do with shape layers: Go to View > Show Grid then grab the pen tool and you can make some nice arrows, triangles, squares, custom letters and animate them.

Thanks all. I like Feel's suggestion the best. For hand drawn shape layers, I don't mind manually panning the anchor point where I want before setting key frames.
