This is so amazing, it deserves its own thread
Click :
That seriously made me fall on my ass. Wow!

put your low attention span on hold and watch it from start to finish.

I visited most of those places last year so it was really special for me. made me wish I had taken more video while I was there.

indeed. gave me a similar feeling to when I watched Baraka for the first time
he has more http://vimeo.com/leonardodalessa…

Yes, very well done technically. But while pretending to be "deep" there is hardly any personal experience below the surface in this... only folklore, images you’d expect, nothing surprising... and it’s presented in a way it could have been an ad by the tourism association of Turkey... pompous shit really... the info text on vimeo only makes it worse. this is like a "look what I had for dinner" pic on pintrest. nice filters no substance.
- Come on the transitions and cuts were pretty nice. No?falcadia
- yeah, that’s what I said... technically and formally it’s very well done, I just miss the substance that is suggestedpressplay
- didn't know this was supposed to be an ad or pretending to be a movie. think you missed the point entirely.doesnotexist

Great editing and seems so relevant right now.

To me that stuff has become a bit like those wonderful timelapse videos of amazingly starry nights. Essentially they are utterly spectacular pieces of work, mind blowing. The first time you ever see it you're blown away.
Now, because of internet, I've seen a thousand of them and I instantly switch off because it's boring and cliche.
Felt the same about that video.

If you want to watch this amazing video here...enjoy!
Absolutely no need to watch it on Vimeo.

That was pretty epic! Thanks for sharing dude.
Vaguely reminded me of http://robchiu.com/ (more like his older work though). That was ace, surprisingly moving. I can almost see what pressplay means in that if it had some real purpose, rather than documentation of a holiday (beautifully mind), it would be vastly more powerful! But very enjoyable regardless!

this one .. by the same guy, is pretty amazing as well

It's a well done video, and you can see an incredible amount of effort went into this. But sorry, Ben I don't think this deserves it's own thread.

Not trying to be a hater, but I got bored just after half way. I understand what he's trying to do, but this is WAY too cutty for me to enjoy. Transition city. Dude needs to calm his beard and do an extended version with longer shots.

thanks benfal.
maybe there are some cliches and whatnot in it, but the production is indeed amazing.
It's truly amazing to know that this stuff can be done without a large expensive production crew nowadays too. Should inspire me to get off my ass and create.

my fav part was the bit with the edit.
seriously though it was good.

i like it. it did kind of feel like a somewhat passionate ad by the tourist board...but it made me want to explore turkey.

It's what you do on holiday, you people watch, you take everything in more so, because you're kind of looking in from the outside as a tourist. Pretty sure most of it's been shot on the fly as well, hence the short clips. Culturally there is a lot to take in, and it takes a lot of skill and personality to pick out small moments, and match up the jump cuts. Music makes it work, but it certainly captures the character of Istanbul and the friendly nature of one of the most culturally rich places you could hope to visit.

I find it a bit refreshing that a form - here visual trickery and fast editing we've all seen before - actually gets attention. Does it mean the next step is going back to meaning through form (the rehash of French New Wave)? Or am i too naive to think that the populous will understand anything as more than visual trickster - nothing beyond the "wow!" factor?

really cool. my eyes are tired from watching it though.

Its all nice work of a certain style, the "mis en scene" as my old film prof might call it, cool experimental work is often nice for its own sake, or for inspiration that may alter the aesthetics of future narrative or doc films..
then again,,, since the 1920's... Vertov....
- which means much of "cool" is really people's ignorance of history.pr2
