I just had a discussion with a friend regarding the number of people employed in The Advertising world* in NYC and I estimated it at being around 100,000 people. What's your guess?
*Full service agencies, digital, boutique.
Not incl. PR, production companies or Media agencies.

100k is not many people in nyc, that is a small block in itself.. is that the size of the area that ad people work in?? i doubt it.. it must be bigger than a block.. although korea town is only 1 real block long.. you have to imagine there is much more than 100k people there.. so i think your estimation is off.. by a lot

Ogilvy has about 2400 employees in US.
AKQA has 1600 worldwide.
Ogilvy NY has about 1500.
R/GA NY has about 600.You would need
100 agencies x 1000 people = 100,000- 1000+ agency office includes their other divisions in the same building (PR, Media etc)2002

So in other words no one has a clue?
So I just found out that Grey has 1200 employees in NYC. I guess there must be 6-8 other agencies of that size as well. So that's 10,000, not counting all the small and mid-sized agencies.
