In March, you'll find late season skiing and snow in Nelson/Fernie/Whistler. Something like the picture you posted above is more likely later May to June at higher elevations. If you stay near the coast you might find snow-free, but cooler temps.
Harrison Mills is really pretty and quite rural, while being within an hour of vancouver airport. https://www.prettyestateresort.c…
You might also look at cabins on Bowen island or in Gibsons/Sechelt, though both are on the coast. Squamish is nice for access to hikes, but most will be under snow in march.

- We don't mind postponing till May, we thought snow might be nice but don't want it to dump on us.HijoDMaite

Tofino looks beautiful, but to be honest we live on the coast so we wanted to go inland a bit. We would love to find a lake with cabins and some great hiking. We kind of want to get away in to nature for a while. Would rather not deal with resorts, hotels, shopping, Starbucks and all that if you know what I mean.
Whistler sounds very expensive and we are not going for the skiing or boarding.
We are thinking March.
Nelson Looks nice!

Lots of good after-hours clubs on the east side of Gastown. Lots of good brew pubs in Mount Pleasant. Definitely hit up Brassneck on Main for a pint of Passive Aggressive.

Vancouver is a fine city, but it's the close proximity to outdoor activity that (in my mind) makes it what it is.
If you want a walk in the woods, the Seymour Demonstration Forest is nice. There's a big suspension bridge (free) out that way, and some beautiful wooded areas.
If you like mountain biking, there's a lot of terrain on the North Shore—however, lots of it is pretty advanced. I thought I was a decent rider until I spent some time up there.
Deep Cove is beautiful. Rent an ocean kayak and take in the sights, from the water. Then get an awesome/heart-stopping donut at Honey's Donuts.
Spanish Banks at low tide (you can check tide info online) is amazing. We often take our dog and walk out for about a mile, and hardly see anyone. That said you really need low tide for this to be pleasant; otherwise, you end up at what feels like an outdoor mall with sand.
The city:
Gastown has some neat spots, but is reaching "Peak Hipster." Lots of good little restaurants and such, though. Bestie is kind of fun: currywurst and fries (very hipster, but tasty). East Van Coffee Roasters is awesome: good coffee, and they hand make chocolate on premises—the profits go into social programs.
Miku sushi may be the best sushi I've ever tasted. Not cheap at ~$25 a plate, but pretty amazing value compared to any other city—and really, really, really good.
Have a fun trip!
- Gastown hasn't been hipster for a while now. It's full yuppie.futuremongolian

I thought Vancouver doesn't allow ugly people
- it does. but there's an entrance levy. 10% discount tho if wearing anything lululemon. so that's good.prophetone

Poutine - try La Belle Patate, or Belgian Fries on Commercial Drive
As for shopping on Robson Street - forget it. It's a truly awful mix of all the chain stores that exist in every city.
If you're into shopping (which I never am on trips), I would suggest either Gastown or Main Street.
Some Vancouver things to do.
-Rent a bike and cruise the Seawall around Stanley Park
-Rent a kayak and go paddling in Deep Cove or False Creek (just don't fall in there, or you will get poo in your mouth)
-Take the gondola up Grouse Mountain and have a drink at the restaurant at sunset (or do the Grouse Grind - a hike up - then drink, and gondola down)
