Reads like a bunch of generic nothing. Like a book report I wrote in school when I hadn't read the book, but I knew handing in nonsense would probably get a passing grade.
"We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more."
"We help people get stuff done. Stuff like term papers, recipes and budgets. Stuff like chatting with friends and family across the world."
"Productivity for us goes well beyond documents, spreadsheets and slides. We will reinvent productivity for people who are swimming in a growing sea of devices, apps, data and social networks. We will build the solutions that address the productivity needs of groups and entire organizations as well as individuals by putting them at the center of their computing experiences. We will shift the meaning of productivity beyond solely producing something to include empowering people with new insights."
"In the next few years we will see many more new categories evolve and experiences emerge that span a variety of devices of all screen sizes. Microsoft will be on the forefront of this innovation with a particular focus on dual users and their needs across work and life."
- But, hey, Microsoft is doing a lot better than I am, so I should probably keep my mouth shut.nb
- They lost $1B on the Surface, that's not doing well.monospaced
- I never had a B to lose...nb
- $1b is 1/25th of average annual revenue. It hurts, but only a little.ETM

I wouldn't expect anythng more than PR speak from an email like this. They will tell the employees some feel good nonsense and then behind closed doors discuss the real strategy. Which knowing Microsoft they probably don't agree on themselves.

They hired some decent graphic designers. Bought Nokia. And now they think they are back on top.

Define 'on top', anyway? The markets and even their competitors have changed a lot in the last decade. It's not about PC desktops and servers. So the old comparisons make little sense. What is the metric? They don't have a market dominating phone and tablet, is that all?
It's still a $25-$30 billion dollar a year company. Still the largest desktop OS maker and enterprise solutions provider. And as Google drives a wedge in the market, MS and Apple are actually drawing closer together in software and service offerings. So it's less of a MS/Apple fight as a Google vs the rest fight.
- the surface, it's a tablet and a laptop! hahahamonospaced
