THEMES:
1. Privacy in the modern age (imo, this may be the most important of our generation...)2. Future (past visions / looking ahead)
3. Borders (physical / digital)
4. Reality / Theoretical (for instance, the theory that the universe is a hologram I find interesting.)
5. Humanity (perceived state of... have we evolved, devolved, revolved - did this turn into an INXS song, who knows...)
PRODUCTION:
I love to collaborate, but the idea of putting a physical collage together then sending it in the mail to another artist / designer could be potentially dangerous regarding the safety of the work. I'm in NYC and the usps is a total joke - in a not funny scary kind of, possibly sad way. For real.As an alternative, maybe it would be possible to do "your part" then scan and send digitally. The second party can print it or something then add their touch...
Or
Simply say, "hey, we're collaborating because we're chatting to one another" and each person takes responsibility to provide a page, spread.
The collaborative glue would be the theme.
I vote for the latter personally : )
My 2 cents.
- ive always used fedex for ntpe and qbntpe, yes nyc usps is bad news.e-pill
- Some cardboard and a padded envelope should be fine.monospaced

antimotion,
working off your idea of the sups being total shit. I have a spinoff that involves just a bit more postage (very little though). So, the collaboration comes in the form that we split off into partners. Each partner sends the other one image that the other must put in their collage. This way, you will send an image/cut out to your partner, but not necessarily know what will come of it in the end.
Once the partner receives the piece, they have to put it in their collage. This would all still be based on the theme we pick, but you may get a cut out that doesn't quite fit what you were thinking for your collage and still have to work it in.
I am totally cool with it being personal, but i do like the idea of having some sort of a wrench tossed in to make you work around (in a good way).

great ideas going on here...
one thought..the collages i've made in the past have been on thick stock and with the glue/images, results in it not being able to be folded/rolled..so flat shipped i'm guessing..somehow.

i'm in the uk - dunno if that queers the pitch at all...? seemed to work ok for the PhE but you lot seem all to be US based
- It'll be fine. Uk is as close to nyc as californiamonospaced

I'm down with the image swop - Better to send ingredients to the cook rather than a half finished pie you may or may not have to start again.

I'd like this to be settled today.
Right now this is the idea I'm thinking.
Partner up. I will put everyones name on paper and draw from a hat to pair everyone up. Once I put that list up you guys will have to exchange information (mane, address, atm pin number, girlfriends).
The size restriction is set at 12x12. The idea is that a card stock/chipboard works best, but let's leave this open. Basically paper that you want to do a collage on.
The theme that is seeming to have the most open ended option right now is PRIVACY. Make it mean whatever you want.
I think once we exchange info we should really start the project off by sending a single (image/cutout/clipping/found image) in an envelope to our partner. This is the collaboration part of it. You won't know what the person does with it. It may be the focal point, it may be hacked to bits or it may be the tiniest piece in their collage.
Do we think July 1st is still doable i set up the partners today?
After July 1st, I can have each individual collage owner shoot a high res photo that I can use to build the 7x7 blurb softcover book. Those will probably be less than $12 each.

Lemme get this straight... only one person in each pair is actually making the physical collage? Personally, I wouldn't like to the person who just cuts things up and sends them, I'd like to be working on the collage part of the time.
- everyone will get arts and crafts time.capn_ron
- ok i seemonospaced
- capn_ron0
everyone makes a collage. it's just the single image you swap. in the end there will be 20 total collages.
- Great, Timeframe?
maybe by mid August or is that too short?antimotion

so i make a digital image of the collage and send that as a high res to my partner? or i make an actual collage and take a digital shot of it and send that to my partner? im lost on this.
or are we making 20 or 19 individual collages and sending them out to each individual participant?
or are we only making a book?
- capn_ron0
here is how this will all go down. Below is the list of things each person in this group will do in order.
1. Make friends with your partner. exchange info
2. Mail 1 piece to your partner in a standard envelope to be used on their collage
3. receive the piece from your partner and begin your collage on a 12x12 sheet of paper.
4. create baddass stuff
5. Photograph final piece and send photo to capn_ron
6. Hang collage on your wall
7. purchase book of everyones collages after capn_ron sends you information (~$12)
8. Profit

I'll honestly say I never read any post on the first two pages here. I just read the title of the thread n thought cool a print exchange of collages. then I thought oh wow even cooler I'm going to make 20 individual collages that all together form 1 image. yet I'll send out 19 prints n everyone in the group would get an original. n then we could make a book n profit.
but now knowing we are only making a 10 page book with 2 sides equaling 20 prints seems less of a greater idea.
even if I created 20 semi identical collages they each would be stand alone one of a kinds.
I'm still in there like swimwear. I'm all for QBN art exchanges. just thought it would be grander as I imagined it rather than reading the idea after my creative juices were sliding down her legs.
:p
- ...but now the idea is to create only one n hang it on my own wall? oie-pill
- then purchase a book. with my own art. wouldn't it be cooler if we did 20 collages sent em n made a..e-pill
- book n those not part of it bought it because they will give us profit better? it's like we will be b r e t t..e-pill
- b a s h n just make feet collages to hang by our bedsides. oie-pill
- since we will be "taking" art and then labeling it "ours" to hang on our own walls to buy a book profit?e-pill
- @capn I know I said in there like swim wear. but I'm out!! let the next runner up take my place.e-pill
- e-pill0
I'm dropping out. I'm not into this idea.
- capn_ron0
no worries e-pill. This isn't meant to be a huge 20 item project per person. It is something you can make and hang on your own wall. Either way.
spendogg - you still want it? you'll be partnered with brandelec.
- sea_sea0
capn not sure how many people are on the back up list. didn't want to commit earlier when this thread started because I was too busy.
But looks like I have time to play now.
If no room, then next time. ;)
- cbass990
So is there a theme or are we just doing what ever we want..? Should we have some sort of deadline or...?
Capn_Ron, maybe one more final list outlining the project...And is homeboy doing a website for it or nah...?
