OKAY I GOTTA QUESTION...
For best results on handheld low light, low blur portraits, what is best?To use a 50mm 1.4f and stand back? (zooming in = more shake)
To use a 17mm 2.8f and get close, reducing shake but less light coming in?
(half frame sensor, so 17mm isn't a fisheye)
- the 50mm — lean against a wall and tuck in your elbows.ok_not_ok
- don't use a 17mm for portraits unless you really want that distortion. even a 50 would be too wide (unless it's on a crop sensor)jaylarson
- Use the 50mm at f1.4, so you can get a faster shutter speed. That will prevent camera shake & motion blur from the subject's movements.nb
- movements. If you need a faster shutter speed, increase the ISO. It'll be fine, as long as you don't mind the shallow DOF of f1.4nb
- don't be afraid of high ISO, like 3200, you can tweek grain in post, but you can't fix blur muchvaxorcist

depends on the body and lens, what do you have exactly?

"OKAY I GOTTA QUESTION..."low light > the faster the lens better, get the 1.4; or faster if you can
zooming > you can't zoom with a prime lens
17mm > wouldn't recommend wide angle for portraits

"low blur portraits"what's that?

portraits? or photojournalism...
if portraits, even in low light, you can ask people to move just a bit, and therefore move into better light.... very slight movements of position and location relative to the light can make a huge difference. Also, you may want a reflector or two like this:
if you can control the situation, otherwise, if it;s more "pure photojournalism" or street photography, then maybe not...
you'd be amazed what F1.8 and 3200 ISO can get you if you're careful

Best strap that won't hurt your neck when walking 5 hours with an heavy DLSR ?
- vaxorcist0
Black Rapid, or a similar strap....
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Rapi…
Note that I also add a shoelace tied to the usual "camera strap" hooklet on the camera tied to the strap in case the tripod-screw strap part suddenly breaks or comes loose....

- This is so true. One correction: 'The HDR hole' should be called 'the chasing trends hole'.nb

I am about to order this 58mm ND filter (10 stop)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/…Does the price seem right? Wondering why it is so cheap? Seems all the other are about ranging about $80
- Ya.... That is about right... I'm sure you can get one cheaper from cheap brand. The only problem of it being cheap brand.pango
- I just got it with free shipping. We'll seeHijoDMaite
- Quality of the metal frame and glass. The more expensive brands are heavier and the glass a lot brighter.ok_not_ok
- yeah, tiffen kinda suck. $20 loss. no biggie. try to stay with b+2, heliopan, and as of late, formatt-hitech has been killing itjaylarson
