I don't know how people dare to show somebody else's work as their own without shame but obviously some can do it. I even saw some work I did in one agency showcased in another agency (of better reputation) portfolio.
How would/did you guys react to this? I am curious.

I would pay them for the exposure!
- It goes without saying they didn't credit me for the work.iGin

This happened to me - we were looking for animators and went through a few reels... one stood out as it had my own work on it! A project I did completely alone. I called the guy in and asked him about it, put him on the spot - his answer was that he had re-graded it for something... Completely bonkers... as the whole piece was gold and black and he had obviously been caught out.
Thing is, it didn't end there, a couple of years later I noticed this same guy had downloaded content from my Vimeo page - and re-uploaded it to his page! I again asked him what this was about and he said - if I didn't want my work stolen I should have locked the download option...

- my god!! you should call him in for an interview, get him in front of the whole company and make him squirmProjectile
- You are far too nice. I would be pissed! The Vimeo thing is blatant stealing.sandbag

Ad agencies do this all the time.
They subcontract a more creative and talented group of people to actually do the work and then they give minor credit and claim their "strategy" was the reason for its success.

I am amazed how many online portfolios I see of "Creative Directors" showing full TV commercials and campaigns and then have business or philosophy degrees on their resumes.
I blame Mad Men. They don't even show the work on the show anymore, all you see is Don telling clients stories and collecting awards.

Yup.
Went for an interview a few years back and the CD looking over my work repeatedly said 'seen this before' ...'and this'. I thought he meant he'd seen it in print etc, he told me afterwards some guy going for the same job had presented half of my work to him a day earlier. This tool i used to work with took a load of work that wasn't his and stuck it in his book. Came a cropper when the dates of some of the work preceded his employment at the agency we worked at. The fucking dick.
I got the job. He didn't. He's now working at supermarket stacking shelves or something the fucking dick.

I don't really want my work in my portfolio. Can't see anybody else trying it.

i've had a couple conversations about this with different creative directors who say they see it all the time. one said someone came in and showed him his own work once. his approach to this sort of thing is to just not say anything because it doesn't really matter– they'll get found out in the end when they can't match that level of work
i'd rather put 'em on the spot but that's just me

I seen ideas stolen in job interviews with big advertising agencies. a nike commercial basically made from a youngins conceptual work tryin to get with the big boys. they loved it and never hired. next thing you know. the obvious.
More then one occasion, one person actually had someone copy one piece work on a copier. We love your work.. never called this guy back.

Ring them up as a fake client and ask specifically for the designer who did that work on their site - money is no object.

Just found someone who just stole 4 of my designs in their portfolio. what a big rip!!!

Call them out. Every time.

I have seen my work in other peoples folios, usually because they worked on the brand so they see my digital works as part of 'the rollout'.
Haha asswipes, I'm not too fussed, I actually hope someone hires them to do an online campaign so they can fuck it all up.

It's tricky when you work with teams - who set up the style, who worked on the changes, who worked on the roll out. Just make sure you clearly label your role and input.
I have had juniors and interns work on projects with me and I don't mind them added the final work into their folios as long as its clearly defined and credited. Art directors that had less than 10% involvement in the project.. that's more grating but hey.. that's what they do!

I did some illustrations for a friend, and he did the design.
My illustrations are in his folio on their own.
If he comissioned the illustrations, is that ok? Honestly not bothered, as if someone asks him for more he'll give the job to me, but I wonder what you guys would think?
- not ok if he's showing these looking like its his own illustrations on their own.microkorg
